Palin slams Trump Carrier deal as 'crony capitalism'

Sarah Palin is criticizing President-elect Donald Trump’s deal with Carrier, even as she is reportedly under consideration to serve as Trump's secretary of Veterans Affairs.

In a op-ed in Young Conservatives published Friday, the former Alaska governor first expresses excitement for the Carrier employees whose jobs are staying in Indiana. “What a relief for hundreds of workers,” she wrote. “Merry Christmas Indiana!”

But she goes onto to blast the deal as “crony capitalism" and an example of the "hallmark of corruption" and "socialism."

“When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent,” Palin wrote. “Then, special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember?”

“Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is on big fail.”

Someone, or some group has his attention.

It is amazing some of the things he is addressing.

A guy that is smart enough to invite a Democrat Governor and possibly a Democrat Senator to join his administration knowing full well they will be replaced by Republicans, is a guy smart enough to figure this on out.

These are not the moves of a novice. His agenda hasn’t been either. Him calling the leadership of Taiwan wasn’t.

This is big league baseball.

All deals are crony deals.

Meaningless.

Another quote:

Gotta’ have faith the Trump team knows all this. And I’ll be the first to acknowledge concerns over a deal cut by leveraging taxpayer interests to make a manufacturer stay put are unfounded – once terms are made public...

Basically, this looks like The Hill is trying to create rifts between conservatives. Sarah expressed a hope for fair incentives for all businesses...The Hill portrays it as ripping Trump.

Yep that’s it. Lower tax rates and the lessening of their regulatory burden. Some don’t seem to get it. What conservatives ares against lower tax rates for anyone? Why begrudge? Contrast this with Solyndra that directly took half billion dollars of tax payer’s money and then they still went out of business because of bad economics. As I recall, Obama was paying the owner off for past support.

“I confess I don’t know if there are any fed carrots in the deal.”

I am just speculating but the federal part of the negotiation could have been that none of the A/C units/systems the USA procures for the next 4 or 8 years would be from Carrier.

I didn’t check the FAR to see if they are an industry partner, but I assume that they are.

It’s not crony capitalism if President Trump issued nothing but threats. We do not and will not know what was said behind closed doors. I love Sarah and know her personally, but trust Trump on this.

She’s an idiot. Mexico and other third-worlds are NOT level playing fields to American businesses.

So Indiana can’t offer tax incentives to businesses? States have been doing this for generations to entice business to come or remain in their states since our founding.

Sarah is above her weight class going toe to toe with Trump on this issue. But can you imagine the media head explosions trying to pick a side in a prolonged battle between trump and plain?? 😂

It’s not 100’s of jobs Palin, it’s 1069 jobs saved. Do the math per year, the taxes and revenue from employed workers vs. the tax break vs. the amount of money it would have cost Indianna in unemployment bebefits for lost jobs, their lost buying power in their community.

I understand other companies will want this same deal. Perhaps they will get it, perhaps Trump will go the tariff penalty way.

Doesn’t Alaska pay their citizens a direct payout of oil royalties? Is that some type of cronyism? Socialism? Anyone have a thought about it?

Of all the things Sarah Palin could criticize, she chooses the best thing that has happened in America in decades.

I don’t want to hear it from her, Ann Coulter, or any other so-called, “purist” in the Republican Party.

Start reminding yourselves what Obama has done for the last eight years.

Isn’t she something? That’s what I call integrity! She will tell truth to power even if it cost her a great job in Trump’s administration. He needs her in there. She has impeccable gut instincts about what Americans think!

The Govt should not save jobs and just allow the market and private sector to make it’s own decisions. Trump pilled an obama here as it sets a precedent to ‘CHOOSE’ which companies stays or goes... PS I guess that’s it for a Cabinet position.

I don't think Palin is smart enough to understand what's she's spouting off about. It's embarrassing to listen to her. This was a state tax break. Does Carrier have competitors in the state? No, not really. So that means unless every single company in the US is given a tax break it's "cronyism"? All tax breaks are good because they deprive the government of funds. The private sector is strengthened at public sector expense. This is a benefit.
