When I write about gun control, I generally make two arguments.
First, criminals are lawbreakers, so the notion that they will be disarmed because of gun control is a fantasy [1]. Crooks and thugs who really want a gun will always have access [2] to black-market weapons. Second, to the extent that good people obey bad gun-control laws (and hopefully they won’t [3]), that will encourage more criminal activity since bad people will be less worried [4] about armed resistance.
These points are common sense, but they doesn’t seem to convince many leftists, who have a religious-type faith that good intentions will produce good results (they need to read Bastiat [5]!).
Every so often, however, the other side accidentally messes up.
As part of its never-ending, ideologically driven campaign to undermine gun rights, the New York Times ran a big 5,000-plus word story [6] last month about mass shootings. Creating hostility to guns was the obvious goal of this “news” report.
But buried in all that verbiage was a remarkable admission. A big majority of shooters already are in violation of gun laws.
“The New York Times examined all 130 shootings last year in which four or more people were shot, at least one fatally, and investigators identified at least one attacker. … 64 percent of the shootings involved at least one attacker who violated an existing gun law.”

I live in a town where kids take off school several days in November every year to go hunting. They all shoot. Their dads shoot. Their moms shoot. And they eat what they shoot. Guns are in over 50% of the homes. And there is more than one gun per person including kids. And even though this is slightly below the average living standard, there are virtually no murders. And accidental shooting deaths are very rare. Deer plus Car accidents, snow mobiles, boats, and skiing each cause more deaths each year than guns. And nobody wants to get rid of them.
Good stuff!
Two possibilities, or combination thereof:
The other 36 percent involved two or morecriminals.
The other 36 percent were charged with the crime of defending themselves.
And 100% of the murderers using a gun (or anything else to kill people!) are criminals.
No chit.

It would be like a physics professor explaining how “Einstein’s greatest blunder” might not have been a blunder at all... to a class of pre-K 3-year olds.
They are not pursing logic. Their desire, of the leadership, is to totally disarm the American people. They don’t care about criminal. Their concern is that an armed citizenry is difficult to force into involuntary servitude. Look at this election. They did not get their way and since we are heavily armed there is nothing they can do about it. If we were not armed we would be looking at armed thugs pretending to be police/military/militia enforcing correct election outcomes. Obama was attempting this with his arming his own private militia, the IRS, the FDA, the Park Service, etc. We are free because we have guns and they don’t like it. The rest of their justification is totally bull shit and they know it.
Correct. That is the dirty secret of the gun-control-freaks. They want you (yes: YOU, personally) to be on your knees before them, utterly dependent and at their 'mercy'.
