If the electors in the Electoral College are free to do what they want, then there’s no reason to even have an election at all. Just have each state raffle off seats to electors — or award them to the highest bidders — and be done with it.

No, the candidate still gets to pick the electors. The election tells you which candidate gets to pick them.

At least now, if the candidate decides to murder his entire family on live TV after being elected, we have a way for to get avoid putting him in office.

I agree with the lawyers who say the electors should not be forced to pick their state’s winning candidate. That clearly goes against the founders’ intent and turns the electors into mere figureheads.
