Noting the appointments Trump has made to fill key cabinet positions for his administration and his desire for greater unity among Americans, Romney said that "all of those things combined give me increasing hope that President-elect Trump is the very man who can lead us" to a better future.
Romney made his remarks after a lengthy meal with Trump and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus at a French restaurant at a Trump hotel in Manhattan. They dined on garlic soup with frog legs, scallops, steak and lamb chop.
Since Trump began to seriously consider Romney as a potential secretary of state, some on Trump's team have voiced doubts about bringing in a former critic and rallied around their preferred candidate, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a long-time Trump friend and loyalist.

I'm not sure if it's the right move or not. I guess it depends on how "on board" Romney really is. Interesting times....
Don’t like it. Why would Trump reward someone who not only savaged him but did every thing he could to derail his campaign, including run that idiot Egg McMuffin against him to try to steal EVs?
Makes no sense.
Trump has proven that he's a better man than Romney.
I'm sure Trump knows what he's doing...
The reason - IMO: to consolidate the neo-cons and the GOPe into the voting block in 2020. Assuming they can get something worked out between the two of them on Russia, it could work. Not my favorite pick but would go a long ways towards reconciling the party factions. Trump can always replace him if needed.
That is a lot of food.
Trump is just a politician after all......what a shame
It makes sense to me. (even if I’m not sure it will work) My take on it is simple. Trump thinks Romney brings instant credibility to his administration and a more measured, temperate hand. Most of that is directed at International relations. Some toward the Dems.
That’s my guess.
A wise man once said that the back you stab today is only a foot or so above the butt you may have to kiss tomorrow. Romney wants to be Secretary of State so bad that he can’t pucker up and smooch hard enough. I so hope that when the dust settles he’s winds up disappointed.
Makes no sense to me but we must realize however that Trump was the most hurt by Romney’s personal attacks. If he has the heart to forgive, then.....
How about a general for this slot?
Does he have more experience in foreign policy than Trump ? I just don’t see it.
Does the secretary of state control the president? Can Trump keep a critical view on whatever the SOS offers? I believe it is worth asking this question to oneself. It doesn’t matter how much of a friend or foe a cabinet member is. If the POTUS can’t keep a critical mindset on his cabinet members, then we are pretty screwed.
Why is Romney a good choice for a foreign policy job?
Trump sure looks like the boss to me in that picture.
Seems really bizarre to me too. Either Trump is trying to make nice,
or he genuinely is trying to do put best men in best jobs - his perception of which.
There’s some really concerning decision making going on in any case.
Of course there is always them dark smoky backrooms where in all honesty, an entire agenda could have been decided for his first term.
So many possibilities, the truth will come out over next few years - and my one constant thought throughout is that Trump is putting the country first, and there is no logical reason for him to renegade right after snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
If he doesnt deliver the wall, repeal of Obama Care and other such changes - he will go down equally hated by all - including people like you and me.
I absolutely agree with you. He’s trying to unite the party.
One important note: Jeb Bush has not been asked to do a single thing. :)
The guy isn’t even in office yet. How about we wait until something actually happens?
I don’t see him as such. I feel that even if you had to get a token Neocon on the cabinet, other positions such as the VA make more sense.
