Donald Trump will nominate Steve Mnuchin, who has ties to both Wall Street and Hollywood, to be treasury secretary, according to a report Tuesday.
The 53-year-old, who also served as finance director for the presidential campaign, was at Trump Tower on Tuesday to meet with the transition team.

“Wed be better off as a nation not to have Wall St and Goldman insiders as our Treasury Secretary. I dont trust them with access to our tax money and with the power that goes with it. We need major change not same ole.”
So, I assume you’d recommend that Trump also fire his chief election strategist, chief speech writer, and chief adviser, the former CEO/cofounder of brietbart.com Steve Bannon? Because Bannon too was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs at one time.
I was rooting for Hensarling
Seems like the Treas Sec is always a wall street guy.
I sure hope this is not true. We need to end the Fed if we are to drain the swamp - is this guy going to end the Fed?
“We need to end the Fed if we are to drain the swamp - is this guy going to end the Fed?”
Not likely. Mnuchin supported (as in, gave money to) Obama in 2012, and Hillary in 2008. The guy is a typical Wall Street opportunist. Loyalty should not take precedence over principles. Bad pick.
Rino count continues to climb, disappointing...
Time to dust off an old trigger: “EMILIO!”.
Steve Bannon was never a major financier in the vain of major insiders at Goldman and Wall St. Those that are have no business playing footsy in the Fed and our Treasury Dept and government. As if the system is not rigged enough already to shake out the weak public hands and provide inside knowledge of market moving events. Ultimately it harms confidence in the ethics and honesty of our public markets.
There seems to be a pathway to policy making and it begins at Harvard etc and runs through Goldman. Corruption in government begins with heavy duty cronyism.
A Goldman Sachs pick? So much for siding with main street and draining the swamp.
Yes for sure. Anyone from the secretary pool in up from GS should not be anywhere near the White House.
this also happens when cities win Olympic bids. The locals think they are going to get the building projects but they end up with people with actual experience. The pool of qualified candidates is limited. When you are a billionaire who do you really hand out with?
My worry is the cheap money express policy we have had for the last 2 decades will continue.
“Yes for sure. Anyone from the secretary pool in up from GS should not be anywhere near the White House.”
So given the fact that Steve Bannon is cofounder and CEO of breitbart.com and is Trump’s chief speech writer, chief election strategist, chief intellectual architect of the Trump Presidency, and now President Trump’s chief adviser, you would prefer Steve Bannon be ejected from the White House because he was once a Goldman Sachs investment banker?
Yes, no taint from that evil company. It just means next time we need it, Trump will there to handout a rescue to the investment banks - at taxpayer expense.
One does what one can, it isn’t as though you know of a better nominee now is it?
Steven Mnuchin (international banker, 17 years as managing partner for Goldman Sachs, worked for George Soros Fund Management, Hollywood movie producer)
Elaine Chao (former Bank of America VP, former Citibank international banker, Bush I and Bush II retread, wife to Senator Addison Mitchell Jerome McConnell Jr.)
Wilbur Ross (international banker, over 24 years with Rothschild Inc., Bill Clinton-appointee to the US-Russia Investment Fund Board, former officer and major fundraiser for the New York State Democratic Party.
Even though I've been on FR for well over 15 years, I learned about a year ago that "Thou Shall Not Ever Speak Ill of Donald Trump" or you'll be called evil, a Democrat, a liberal/leftist, a communist, a traitor.
Different verse, same as the first.
I’m sure President Trump appreciates the offer.
