Why Kellyanne Conway hates Mitt Romney
The Washington Post ^

Posted on 11/29/2016 9:00:07 AM PST by detective

Kellyanne Conway made one thing very clear in her Sunday interview with “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd: She’s not a fan of Mitt Romney. Like, at all.

Here’s how she responded to Todd’s question about her feelings about the 2012 Republican presidential nominee:

People feel betrayed to think that Governor Romney, who went out of his way to question the character and the intellect and the integrity of Donald Trump, now our president-elect, would be given the most significant Cabinet post of all, secretary of state. And that is a decision that only one man can make, President-elect Donald Trump. I will respect it, and I will support it 1,000 percent. But I’m reflecting what the grass roots are saying

They feel a bit betrayed that you can get a Romney back in there after everything he did. We don’t even know if he voted for Donald Trump. He and his consultants were nothing but awful to Donald Trump for a year.

What astonished me is that this anger was never directed at Obama over his 8 years, ever.

The media and, sorry to say, American Socialists had a great deal to do with keeping Obama on a pedestal.....and neither Obamas plans to go away quietly...remember the "I Won" rude remark made to McCain at some meeting....so many other slights made to the nation that elected him twice!....then along comes Trump, the

Agreed. If Trump nominates Romney for anything above doorman at Trump Tower I strap on my parachute and prepare to jump.

I have no doubt about Romney’s ability and skill at doing an overhaul of State, but I believe it’s far more likely he’d side with them and use the position to undermine and sabotage Trump. He doesn’t really believe in the same vision for the country as Trump, and would likely be a Trojan horse agent for the globalist elites.

She’s a movement conservative who dislikes RINOs. She worked on Newt’s primary campaign in 2012 to defeat Romney.

Yes, it is hard to “okay” Romney anywhere near a TRUMP administration, or for that matter, in a building anywhere near by in DC.

I don’t know what attributes TRUMP could have possibly seen in Mr. Ann Romney, unless it was his shiny reputation for breaking up and cleaning up institutions, and then there was the Olympics to his credit. But, what? I don’t get it.

” TRUMP wants the State Department OVERHAULED, which is Romney’s forte.”

That makes sense. Keep in mind that KellyAnne was the last of three campaign managers. Both her & her predecessors were put in charge during the specific phases of the campaign - the primaries, the convention, and then the GE - each one bringing their specific skill set to manage those diverse phases.

It may be - as mentioned above - that Mitt will be brought in to perform the “overhaul”, and once that is complete a new SoS, one more in-sync with Trump’s foreign policy will be installed.

Just a thought...

Wish I were so inventive, but it was the columnist’s scenario that I was laying out. Thanks, marron.

I’ll be very surprised and very disappointed if Romney gets SoS.

More to the point, I would bet a week’s pay that if he does get picked, it won’t be because of his skill set (restructuring). The reason would have to be that Romney as SOS is the price in exchange for more valuable political gains elsewhere.

The only scenario I can imagine that might explain this is the following:

Let’s say the #neverTrumps in senate and congressional leadership positions are not done yet - they are being more conciliatory in public, but let’s assume they have made clear to Trump in private that they can and will join with democrats to block Trump’s cabinet appointments, judicial nominations and legislative proposals unless they get certain concessions.

The concessions are mostly window dressing. They know they can’t thwart the voters who swept Trump into office, but they have enough leverage to get some face saving figurehead appointments, and some window dressing legislative items into Trump’s agenda. They want the appearance of partial victory - they want to avoid the perception of having been beaten into the dust. They still think this Trump thing may blow over and they want to be in a position to pick up the pieces.

If Trump picks Romney it will have to be part of a deal like that. Trump is a deal maker. There is give and take. Trump will get the best of the deals he makes, but he will have to offer some concessions. Maybe this is one of them (if it even happens).

I’m 100% sure of one thing: There is no way in hell Kellyanne Conway would express her displeasure over the prospect of Romney getting SOS without Trump’s full blessing. He is using her to communicate HIS displeasure at the prospect.

So, if it is Romney, we can be sure it is a strategic sacrifice for a greater good. I think Trump is smart - I trust him... I’ll just have to watch him play out the rest of his hand and maybe later I’ll understand what he was thinking.

I have to disagree. Petraeus pled guilty to a charge of mishandling classified information, albeit a misdemeanor charge. (I can assure you that none of us, under the same circumstances, would have been given that opportunity. Sound familiar?)

According to court records, “Three days before he switched careers [retired from the Army to become Director of the CIA], Petraeus gave Broadwell eight notebooks he’d compiled that contained highly classified information and other secrets, including the identities of covert officers, intelligence capabilities, quotes from high-level meetings of the National Security Council, and notes about Petraeus’s discussions with President Obama.”

While Petraeus’ actions may differ from those of Hillary Clinton in magnitude, the essence of the offense is exactly the same; he gave highly-classified information to a person without a Need to Know. Couple that with the fact that Petraeus is a cheating slimeball and one of the most political general officers the Army has ever known and I would submit that he shouldn’t be anywhere near any classified information ever again.

I know. This is a fascinating privilege we have to watch this play out in Trump Tower.

Always before it was done privately away from cameras watching people arrive and depart.

Tough call. He’d be on a short chain with Trump.

Clearly, Romney brings nothing to the table. Ok, maybe he’s on aboard with tougher trade negotiations with China and Mexico. He’s clean, but his judgment on going after Trump personally just sticks in side. Why did he do that? I mean why?

Rudy, strikes me as weak choice too, although he’d be loyal to Trump.

I think with Trump you want people who can carry the ball. I’m not sure Rudy is up to the task.

Petraeus has the contacts.

Inspite of the negatives, I think Petraeus the best pick.

Romney, as Secretary of State, would bring in his own people and work with the media and the corrupt State Department to sabotage Trump. Trump's only choice would be to fire him.

Rudy inherited a corrupt and dysfunctional NYC government. Rudy made big changes. Rudy reduced violent crime by over 75% and saved NYC from bankruptcy.

Rudy is honest, intelligent and tough. He would be a great Secretary of State.

Romney is a two faced liar. He would be a disaster.

I agree, right now I’m giving Trump a C- grade, disappointing. I’ve kind of dropped out of following what he’s doing. I had so much hope for him but not so much anymore. At least we defeated Hillary, but the Rino’s are definitely going to be back in power. I really thought Trump represented a new party, but I was wrong.

“right now I’m giving Trump a C- grade, disappointing”

I would give Trump an A based on his current choices.

There are reasons why Trump must consider Romney for the cabinet. I understand that.

I think it would be a mistake to appoint Romney Secretary of State.
