NOV. 28, 2016. Democrats Clinch A Supermajority In Both Houses of The California Legislature After Josh Newman Wins State Senate Seat
Democrat Josh Newman has defeated Assemblywoman Ling Ling Chang (R-Diamond Bar) to win the race for the 29th Senate District, giving Democrats in the Legislature a two-thirds majority in both houses.
The Associated Press called the race Monday evening for Newman, who had been steadily gaining ground as provisional and absentee ballots were counted over the last three weeks.
I am immensely honored to have earned the trust and support of so many of my neighbors, whove placed their faith and trust in me as their next state senator," Newman said in a statement, crediting his supporters with helping counter what he called the "obscene levels of spending" in the race.
Democrats had already secured a supermajority in the state Assembly with the defeat of Republican legislators Young Kim (R-Fullerton), Eric Linder (R-Corona) and David Hadley (R-Manhattan Beach).
With a supermajority, a political party can raise taxes, place measures on the statewide ballot, enact laws immediately with an urgency clause and override a governors veto.
In a statement, Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon congratulated Newman on his "clear and impressive victory."

Well, it is California after all. Who would have expected otherwise? It’s the Freeloader State.

with the number of illegals allowed to vote how could they lose?
We will just go broke sooner
Kalifornia: Welcome to hell
One party state. This happened in part by the initiative that voters approved awhile back for top tier voting. Top 2 vote getters get the nomination regardless of the party. After it was approved Republicans had even a harder time to win a nomination.
This is the type of election Jill Stein advocates for on her website.
“We’re gonna need a bigger wall”
California flushed its self.
Great, that portends an acceleration of locusts fleeing across the Sierras into Nevada to further foul our once immaculate nest, but at least we will get even more freakin’ restaurants that serve kale tacos.
Challenge the outcome.
Now you will see what communism is all about - and I live here. This place needs a revolution but never fear, leftists. The conservatives will hide for fear of name calling.
Against the backdrop of Republican gains across the country during the Obama era, California has gone the other way. During the Obama yearsCalifornia has become increasingly democratic, while the rest of the country has trended more Republican.
Geez, with a supermajority in Sacramento, a Democrat governor, and virtual assurance that the governor elected in 2018 will be a Democrat, California has got to be the Democrats dream come true. A place where they are in complete control.
Don’t get any ideas about the Colorado River water allocations Mexifornia. We sent the National Guard once, we’ll do it again.
First thing they’ll go after is Prop 13.
Pray for us America.
And I mean this seriously.
