One of President-elect Donald Trump's top advisers said Sunday that his loyal supporters across the country feel "betrayed" that he is considering one of his most vicious critics, Mitt Romney, for secretary of state. "I'm all for party unity, but I'm not sure we have to pay for that with secretary of state position," Kellyanne Conway, Trump's campaign manager, told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union." She added: "It's just breathtaking in scope and intensity the type of messages I've received from all over the country ... the number of people who feel betrayed to think that Gov. Romney would get the most prominent Cabinet post after he went so far out of his way to hurt Donald Trump."
Conway first opened a window on the infighting in Trump's transition over who should win the powerful role as the nation's top diplomat, when she tweeted on Thanksgiving about concerns with Romney. "Receiving deluge of social media & private comms re: Romney Some Trump loyalists warn against Romney as sec of state," she tweeted, including a link to a Politico story.

He shpuld be hired to turn around the VA.
“process has gone on for as long as it has”
Powell was announced as SOS on December 16th and Hillary on December 1st. It’s early.
+1
I think we can safely say that allowing Kellyanne to appear on the Sunday News shows with this message that Mitt is done.
There’s sparky and then there’s going over the top with compliments and softness, which I didn’t vote for. I thinks he’s capable of being a gentleman without making his hardcore supporters cringe.
Picking Mitt would make the Bushies happy. Considering Mitt raises the ire of the bulk of Trump’s voters. Now Trump can turn to Romney and the Bushes and say, “Hey look, I tried. But you guys are not popular within the party.” Good Cop, Bad Cop — with the Trump voters playing Bad Cop.
Romney would have been good working for McCain or even Odumbi ....
but this is a big Country and we have tens of millions of qualified folks that are not inYourFace lying hypocrites.
Gen Mattis, no better friend no worse enemy, seems like a new good motto for State.
I don’t feel ‘betrayed’. Trump knows what he’s doing. I’ll go along with whomever he chooses.
Actually I meant the process of Trump allowing Romney to stick around as a viable candidate for SoS. Romney doesn’t deserve one more minute of consideration. I should have been clearer on that.
Romney would NOT be my first choice - or my 50th choice - BUT if Trump chooses him I’ll trust his judgement.
YES to Rohrabacher. Let’s get some new blood up in here.
Trump never said that Romney was being considered for anything. The only one who did was Mike Pence, no doubt after consulting with his good friend Paul Ryan. The speculation will only end when Trump picks somebody else.
“He shpuld be hired to turn around the VA.”
I would do that in a heartbeat. The VA is a money pit that both republicans and democrats have used for their own slush fund while hurting vets. For Romney to succeed there he will have to go against establishment interests. And if he doesn’t, the embarrassment of being fired will resonate.
The Mittens drama is keeping Romney tied up and quiet.
Excellent point.
If Kelly’s role as Donald’s spokesperson becomes sharply reduced in the near future, we will know which way his ship is steering. Hopefully, he will listen to the alarms she is now sounding before it’s too late. I would like for Mitt to be a part of the Trump Administration in some manner. Perhaps not in such a pivotal , crucial role as S.O.S. Give Mitt an ambassadorship, just to remove him from the #NeverTrump list.
Mittens IS the snake in the song. No Mittens, NO way ever!
Agreed—NEVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is always the possibility that Trump met with Mittens and the bishop ASKED for the SOS job. Perhaps Trump did have him in mind to fix the VA...a job I think matches his mundane talents. It is also possible that ROMNEY is leaking that he is under consideration... Thus Kelly Anne’s public denouncing of the possibility.
Best guess I have heard. He enjoys sticking his fingers in their noses and dragging them where he wants them to go. I would not be surprised if he announced John Bolton, Rohrbacher or someone else tommorrow that is not being discussed, and then laugh at the NYT.
Trump's consideration of Romney was likely a head-fake all along. He was just using Romney, never had any intention of appointing him to State. It's not a nicey-nice way of dealing with people. But of course Romney himself was not nice.
Trump as a successful businessman knows backhanded moves, and he's going to use them. This is nothing new for politicians - and if Dem whiners claim such behavior is beneath the dignity of the presidency, then they don't know their own presidential history (JFK & LBJ, just to cite two vert dirty dealers).
