Has he noticed how old - and American - those cars are?
I love old cars, and this proves they are iron-clad, but it’s pathetic so many are so old in every-day society.
There was a PBS documentary about Cuba. Somehow they snuck their reporters over the wall (that keeps out the riff raff) and they talked to average, aka completely broke, Cubans.
They were enamored with how clever the Cubans are when it comes to car repair. They’ve managed to keep their old beaters working for 60 years. It takes a clever guy to pound a new water pump out of an old rusty frying pan. To the liberal Castro loving journalist it’s just wonderful. They never bothered to ask if the Cubans would rather be free and prosperous to buy a new car. NOPE. LIbs want to keep the “charm” of Cuba so they can feel good about themselves. In other words, keep Cubans broke and repressed for their own tourist and political paradise.
There are one or two shows somewhere in the ‘verse about them. Real cottage industry making replacement parts. I’ve seen a couple. Fantastic, really.
