Ron Glass, a centerpiece on the 70's sitcom "Barney Miller" has died ... according to his rep. Glass had recently battled with various illnesses, and was an active member in the L.A. Buddhist community. He passed away at his home Friday, where'd he'd been watched by a caretaker. Glass received an Emmy nomination for his role as Detective Ron Harris on the show ... he also made appearances on the original Hawaii Five-O, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Firefly and more recently on an episode of CSI in 2014. RIP
Which is too bad, it would have been very interesting building that story line!
He was from Evansville and Florence Henderson was from Dale, Indiana. About 40 miles apart. The Hoosier state lost two good ones this weekend.
Did he ever get his novel published?
“was an active member in the L.A. Buddhist community.”
Oh, a barking moonbat.
Did you bark at the moon last week? Did you bark at the moon this week? If you don’t bark at the moon next week, your benefits will be terminated.
There was life and love in that man, his smile told that.
It looks like about half the “Barney Miller” cast is gone. Jack Soo (age 61) passed during the run, hmmm, I remember him getting hepatitis, requiring the rest of the cast and crew to get gamma globulin shots, Ron Carey dead at 71, Landesberg 74, and Vigoda 94 at the beginning of the year.
“71 is too young.”
Yup.
Two were wonderful human being, the third a murdering dictator who joins Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Chavez, Afarat in hell
Some black crook (probably a pimp or drug dealer) is giving Detective Harris grief about being a cop, etc. and Harris says, "But I've got something you'll never have?"
"What's that?"
"Credit".
After the expected audience laugh, he goes on.
"I am able to get what I want just by signing my name."
And I thought....Yeah!
I really really liked his character. Very cool guy.
Rest in Peace, Ron.
I agree.
I have no idea what he was like as a person, one sign of a great actor.
LOL....Blood on the Badge.
OMG!!!
Just watched this episode of Barney Miller and Ron Glass is this side of cracking up, as Jack Soo appears to go Ad Lib.
Hilarity starts around 8 minute: https://youtu.be/9WdEoCLzzU4
Too damned funny!!!
My favorite character on a wonderfully funny show. RIP
You’re so right. Was hoping that the third would be George S. but no such luck.
Whoever was the casting director on “Barney Miller” was a pure genius, not only for the perfect regular ensemble, but for the various characters who showed up as crooks and victims. A real classic.
RIP Mr. Glass...Barney Miller was a great show....
His hair is still there...waiting.
Author of “Blood On The Badge”.
Years ago I caught an elevator ride with him at a DragonCon. We talked about Barney Miller for a minute.
He struck me as a very nice fellow.
RIP Det. Harris.
