I felt that she should have been handcuffed and arrested at the conclusion of her atrocity.

I wouldn’t have blame any player that sat down somewhere in the middle of that.

I loathe it when a singer makes the National Anthem about THEM.

So glad I will never see or hear that. Ugh. I’m sick that I even READ about it.

"Actually, "dramatic" might not be the best word to use to describe Franklin's performance. "Never-ending" would probably work better after Franklin somehow managed to belt the anthem out for a full four minutes and 35 seconds."

CBS...it can't be "never-ending" if it ended after 4 minutes & 35 seconds.

CBS...making crap up that honest news outlets won't tell.

Delay of game, 5 yard penalty, still first down.

But hey, at least it wasn’t as bad as this one...

Her performance was pathetic to say the least.

Meanwhile dinner with family continued:

Just because all the VERSES wer sung.

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
’Tis the star-spangled banner—O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

About 15 years ago, some “artists” began using the occasion of the national anthem to showcase a black-pseudo gospel-drawn out-street cred version of the Star Spangled Banner. I did not watch Franklin's, but I assume that is what it was. Probably like Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love Lou meets Francis Scott Key.

They should just play a video of Whitney Houston’s best-ever National Anthem from the 1991 Super Bowl. That’s the gold standard and eliminated all need to create the circumstances for this abomination from yesterday. We muted the audio, took a nap, had Thanksgiving dinner and came back - bi$?h was still going.....

I love Aretha.

I loved that she accompanied herself.

She was, and is one of a kind.

She is not long for this world.

I decided to enjoy her while we’ve still got her.

Her artistic license with the anthem I excused because of all the above.

I was carving the Turkey (to take to a pot luck) when it came on and after hearing the first refrain decided it wasn’t worth paying attention to. Did the grand old lady “Roseanne Barr” it?

The 1 hour football game is over 3 hours so Aretha Franklin was just going along with flow.
