The military parade for Donald Trump has come early. Two months before Inauguration Day festivities, an extraordinary number of recently retired generals, including some who clashed with President Barack Obama's administration, are marching to the president-elect's doorstep for job interviews.
It's not unusual for an incoming administration to consider a retired general for a top position like CIA director. But Trump has turned to retired officers so publicly and in such large numbers that it raises questions about the proper balance of military and civilian advice in a White House led by a commander in chief with no defense or foreign policy experience.
The tilt toward military officials may reflect a limited pool of civilian options. Many officials from previous Republican administrations politically disowned Trump during the campaign, calling him unqualified. And Trump suggested he wouldn't want many of them, as he vowed to "drain the swamp" by running establishment figures out of town.
Robert Goldich, a retired government defense analyst who has watched administrations for 44 years, says Trump's focus on retired generals might be unprecedented.

So there is a problem with hiring people who have experience in a specific job category?
Idiotic media.
Sorry, AP, but thanks to you, our generals are more educated, more intelligent, more moral, and better leaders than ANY Democrat.
Sorry ‘bout that.
Uh, no I’m not.
Oh yeah, politicians are at the bottom of the respect list.
Our military is at the top.
It raises no such question. What it does speak to is the sucky relationship that Obama had with his military leaders.
In the same way that Obama's attack on career military officers and enlisted men who did not agree with his actions to fundamentally transform the military into just another democrat social experiment were unprecedented?
Active Duty ping.
We have an occupant of the White House who posted crudely forged birth documents. Obama spent **MILLIONS** of his own money and that of the taxpayers to prevent any lower level military personnel from seeing certified documentation of his natural born citizenship.
Did any general resign? Nope. I don't remember any general or admiral doing that.
Shame on all of them. Personally....If, in the extremely unlikely event, I am in the company of any general or admiral, I will turn my back. I will shun them.
Fact: If asked, any natural born citizen would be pleased and **HONORED** to show proof of their natural born citizenship to **any** military man or woman.
There is a kernel of truth here in the “when you’re a hammer everything looks like a nail” vein, but it also underestimates the amount of international diplomatic relationship work the top generals have to execute in their jobs (specifically the Geographic Combatant Commanders).
Fact: If asked, any natural born citizen would be pleased and **HONORED** to show proof of their natural born citizenship to **any** military man or woman.
You assume too much. Barack was raised from infancy to beleive that being a citizen of the United States was a shameful thing, something that had to be atoned for.
Robert Burns was a poet...
so here is one for you mr news propaganda guy
There once was a man named George Marshal
He was the last SecDef who was retired general
after 65 years oh Harvard and Ivy League types trying to run the military
Ain’t it about time to put on our big boy pants and let military types get us back on track to win a war instead of just looking PC...got it sparky?
I know it does not rhyme but neither do you Mr Burns
So stick it!!
Best to take advice from the AP!
I would take a retired General any day, as long as they truly earned the part. The military is the only portion that actually has to succeed. Military people are very good managers/delegators. Wouldn’t even need to be related to the military.
Put a General at the top of every agency to clean house.
I want him to flush out Obama’s PC picks, and bring back the officers he ran off.
Trump has scrapped the Anal Sex Preference as a job qualification.
Gasp!
Didn’t Obama fire over 80 generals and admirals and replace them with his own loyal generals and admirals ?
tsk, tsk, ;o) liberal heads will explode, a President with his own appointed Junta. Give a General a job, and he will do it. I don’t think they’ll be picked to improve the economy or transportation. They’ll be appointed to areas of national security. Better to have a General there than a Politician from the swamp.
“But Trump has turned to retired officers so publicly and in such large numbers that it raises questions about the proper balance of military and civilian advice in a White House led by a commander in chief with no defense or foreign policy experience.”
Apparently it’s a very BAD thing according to AP that a commander in chief with “no defense or foreign policy experience” is hiring enough military officers to make up for this supposed lack of experience, oh, and doing the hiring so publicly.
Apparently AP wants President Trump to hire fewer retired military officers than he needs to make up for his putative lack of military experience AND to do it in secret!
Folks, you just can’t make this shit up!
We need to bring back real military parades down the main streets of America ... just for the awe inspiring hell of it.
