Former Governor Romney was one of Donald Trump’s harshest critics during the election. He assisted his opponents and was essentially working to get Hillary Clinton elected.

Donald Trump met with Mitt Romney in New Jersey last week. Sources said he was interviewing for the Secretary of State position with the Trump administration.

Trump supporters HATE the idea.

Now this… Transition Team sources told Ed Henry from FOX News that Mitt Romney is preparing a public apology. Mitt Romney is reportedly very interested in the Secretary of State job.

Romney is smart enough to know that is a good platform to primary Trump in 2020.

This can very quickly turn into a shadow GOPe government. Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney and Reince holding some of the most powerful positions in government is a disaster. If that is what the people wanted Obama would have lost in 2012 but he won in a landslide

Romney also controls Paul Ryan.

I think the answer to the question about who will be selected is how Trump sees the position of SOS and what he expects from him.

For example, I don’t believe for a minute that Trump sees Pence in the normal VP role. He will have far more responsibility than attending funerals.

I expect Pence to have a critical role in governing. More like the VP of a company than the normal VP of the US.

So, does Trump see the chief role of an SOS as a negotiator? If so, would Romney be more qualified than others up for the job?

I don’t like Romney anymore than anyone else here but I do trust Trump. And I support anything he thinks he needs to do to accomplish his (our) goals

Frankly, I don’t think Romney or Rudy fit the job. After seeing clips from Romney’s anti-Trump speech recently, I don’t know why Trump would consider him for the job of cleaning the White House toilets. Marco... Ted... different story. They were running against Trump and it’s far more forgivable for them to get caught up in the passion of the campaign and start throwing everything they could at the guy who was whipping their asses. But Mitt? He wasn’t running against Trump. He only did what he did to be a disloyal, GOP-e bastard. Screw him.

Disappointed with both Trump and presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as the choices for president, the 2012 GOP standard-bearer might vote for a candidate from an entirely different party in November, telling Blitzer:

“If [Libertarian vice presidential nominee and former Massachusetts governor] Bill Weld were at the top of the ticket, it would be very easy for me to vote for Bill Weld for president.

So I’ll get to know Gary Johnson better and see if he’s someone who I could end up voting for. That’s something which I’ll evaluate over the coming weeks and months.”

He added that should he not vote for the Johnson/Weld ticket, he would likely write in a Republican (name to be determined), as he still has no plans on voting for either Trump or Clinton.

He’s a snake. A vicious snake.

The bad thing with Romney is if he he was the puppet-master to McMullin which many say, they really were trying to take Utah and the election away from Trump.

It’s one thing to just want the best man for the job, it’s one thing to insult others during a campaign but that above is going beyond.

Yea, even George W. Romney endorsed Nixon and got into the Nixon Cabinet too in 1969 despite his admitted “brainwashing.”

A forced apology doesn’t count; it means nothing if it isn’t heartfelt and was his own idea. Apparently, an apology is being dragged out of him. Screw him.

No one, including Donald Trump, will ever convince me that Mitt Romney is the only person out there qualified enough to be Secretary of State.

Having said this, however, I’m sure if Romney publicly apologizes to Trump to ingratiate himself with Trump’s supporters, that would be all Trump needs to hire him for the job.

SoS is too important a job to mess with. Since Bill Clinton it’s been more a ‘diversity slot ... first woman SOS, first black Sos, first black woman SOS, etc. For the love of God and the USA, put in someone who’s serious, who nows the responsibilities of the job and how to project the very best of the USA on the world stage.

It feels like the girl wing sans Laura of the Trump team is winning

Trumps movement was not based on any talk of healing which frankly came after the fact of winning

I can only guess he thinks bringing Romney on board will thwart the Never Trump assjacks

I’m not happy with it

He’s listening to KellyAnne and Ivanka too much I fear

As someone who knows Haiti well that is impossible

Unless someone is king for life and has a good heart

And even then you have to deport 75-80% of the population

It way predates Bill “the predator” Clinton.

During FDR’s reign as God Emperor of the White House, the Dept of State was heavily infested with commiescum.

I suspect, though, with the wikileaks and other sources recently made available, there’s enough on Mittens to hold him in serious check until he can be ruined once the primary offenders are reduced to ashes.

#17 - worthy of a suggestion to Trump’s people. Great idea and it would help out friends in the DR who feel their side of the island is being overrun with illegals.

I am not sure what’s going on with Rudy. I’ve heard rumblings he’s not as sharp or with it as he once was. I would have thought his skills would be better suited for Homeland Security than State.

I think Romney has skills that would be very useful at State if he could be persuaded to use them...cleaning out the career socialists, making competent and efficient people the norm, being low-key and “diplomatic”..

The problems with Romney- first, the people around him are just wretched hacks. Second, I don’t see how he overcomes the things he said about Trump. They were brutal- worse than anything even between Cruz and Trump. I just don’t know. Then, what dynamics follow? Will those who agreed with Romney at the time suddenly turn on him, or suck it up and support Trump?

Lots to consider. But the real question I have is, what is it that makes Trump want Romney enough that he’d overlook what’s been said..

And who other than Bolton (a mixed bag as well) Newt or Rudy is Trump looking at? There have to be some good people with great skills for this position...

Please let this be a ploy to bring detestable Romney to his knees then choose Rudy.
