When I was 15 a Mexican man approached me on the street and asked if I would date him. He looked to be about 30. I told him how old I was and he said that was okay. In his country I would have been married by then. I delicately reminded him that we were not in his country and that he’d have to speak to my father. He never bothered me again.

Once upon a time the authorities made it clear that the US doesn’t care what you did in the Old Country you better leave that kid alone or your butt was going to be jailed and then deported. We need to go back to that and we need to remember that culture matters. A man’s born and raised understanding of life will come out whether he’s back home or here.

Thanks for sharing and I’m sorry that happened to you.
Thank God you had the guts to tell him the truth and include your father into the conversation.

I wish we had the cojones to enforce the old laws we used to have.

It’s going to take a generation or two to get back there.
