Has he read WikiLeaks? Many in the media are not independent, and that’s a a huge issue.

I, for one, am all for Reich and the rest of the media continuing right down the path they’re on. Let them act like the Trump administration is going to be some neo-Nazi, misogynist cabal that’s going to destroy America. If Trump continues down his path of sensible government, that 80% of the country is comfortable with, America will also see that they’re full of horse hockey. They’re destroying themselves with their lies and over-reaches.

The media has been dishonest and discredited long before Trump came on the scene.

The Potemkin Press has been exposed.
People don’t need it and don’t want it.
It’s not “free and independent” and has not been for a very long time.

What independence do the media have from the corporate-state cabal who own and pay them?

Lets ask the FOX 26 reporter fired for posting a pro-Trump comment on FlakeBook

The major media destroyed its own independence by turning its news pages and broadcasts into extended anti-Trump and pro-Hillary editorials. Perhaps this is a natural consequence of drcades of professionalization, from journalism schools to hiring out the Ivy League and other elite institutions exclusively, with journalists ascending from just outside the governing classes to just inside them as courtiers and retainers.

When in history has what Reich describes been done? And when specifically in American history? Finally, the media NEEDS some berating, and they need to learn to be accountable to the American people.

There is a systematic problem in the use of the term, “the media.” And that is that in its original form, the term included fiction (movies, TV dramas) as well as journalism. That is utterly awkward, for the simple reason that there is no way I can conceive of that would be a principled rule by which to censor or even critique fiction from a political POV. It is simply ruled out by 1A. Period.

Even restricting your attention to journalism “the media” is problematic as a term because “media” is a plural noun - and wire service journalism is singular. The AP systematically homogenizes journalism not only by sharing the same inputs off “the wire,” but by instituting standards for stories to be carried on “the wire.”

It may be objected that the AP is not the only wire service, and that is true - but any and all such ineluctably have the same effect on journalism.

Journalism is inherently negative - “no news is good news” because good news “isn’t news.” Basically, good news is advertising. And yet, knowing that journalism is negative, journalists claim that journalism is objective. But negativity can be objective only to the cynic. In fact, journalism is negative about society, and naive about government. Precisely the defining characteristics of socialism.
