Thousands of attorneys have signed a letter opposing the appointment of Steve Bannon as President-elect Donald Trumps chief strategist and senior counselor.
Bannon has a long history of making bigoted comments and has been accused of domestic abuse and being anti-Semitic. Under his executive chairmanship, Breitbart has trafficked widely in white nationalism and homophobic and sexist content.
The more than 15,000 lawyers who signed the letter co-authored by Nancy Leong, associate professor at University of Denver law school, called on members of Congress to take all possible measures to make Trump rescind his appointment of Mr. Bannon:
As attorneys, we swore an oath to uphold the Constitution. We committed to protect the institutions upon which our democracy depends. We committed to provide zealous representation for all our clients, regardless of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic.
Mr. Bannon has demonstrated his opposition to the stable, democratic form of government that our profession embraces and strives to maintain. His words could not be more clear: Lenin wanted to destroy the state, and thats my goal, too . . . I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of todays establishment. This contempt for our longstanding governmental institutions has no place in a crucial leadership position.
Many of the signatories to the letter self-identify as conservative or libertarian, Leong wrote in an email to The Huffington Post. Opposing the appointment of someone who has enabled white nationalism and other hate-based ideologies is not a partisan issue.

It may not be “Jeffersonian” but Trump has ways to get around the big city dems. They’ve indicted themselves with their support for sanctuary cities
so far nobody’s produced any evidence he’s unqualified or objectionable to serve
Q: What does a lawyer get when you give him Viagra?
A: Taller
As of 2015 there are 1,300,705 lawyers in the U. S. So that is 1.15%. Of all of the lawyers. Not exactly what I would call a staggering sum.
I think you mean, “paradigm.”
“What do you call 15,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?”
-Water pollution
-a good start
-if not touched by sharks..professional courtesy.
You’re right. It’s late.
Lawyers in the govt suck and is what has ruined this country. They obviously have loved Obama and the Clintons, along with all the lobbyists that will be out of a job.
Get their names for the tort reform list.
>>As attorneys, we swore an oath to uphold the Constitution<<
I assume they are big 2nd Amendment supporters and they are all Lifetime NRA Members, right?
There are 1.3 MILLION Lawyers in this country.
Lawyers always have a wildly inflated opinion of themselves. Ever notice how just about everyone with a law degree will manage to work that into every conversation? Little do these fools know that most people think that lawyers are only one notch up from a child molester.
And I've never seen anyone so bollixed up about a President elect. The crazed leftists are scurrying out from everywhere, like cockroaches.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor users?
15,000 lawyers - just about the right number of fools in the legal profession. How many thousands of lawyers are NOT signing this petition? That should be a headline.
Answer: You don't call them. You leave them for Davy Jones' Locker.
I recommend that all “15,000” of them meet in Denver, go to the nearest Mary Jane Boutique and pick up a nice little bag of weed and retreat to their “safe spaces”. Personally, I don’t think that a country the size of America needs 15,000 “lawyers”. That’s a lot of ***holes in one place.
I am just not as worried as I once was. The MSM tried their hardest to kill Trump’s chances of winning and they failed miserably. The MSM has no idea who the Trump voters are, even now. If it hadn’t been for the fraud, the election would have been an avalanche. I think their days of controlling this country’s opinions are numbered, especially with the way Trump has cleverly learned to use social media to his advantage. I think he’ll do what Reagan did and go around the MSM to take his message directly to the public. Trump’s got channels to do so that Reagan could only have dreamed of.
ROTFL! When liberals "self-identify" as a "conservative or libertarian" you know they are too ashamed to admit that they are DemocRATS. DemocRATS "self-identifying" as Republicans is what really screwed up the pollsters this time.
