It looks like Clinton will come in at about 48%. That means 52% will have voted against her. She will have lost the popular vote.
5% went for libertarian, constitution or Mormon. The majority of the voters voted Republican or conservative. She would need a third of the libertarian vote along with all the Green vote to get to 50%.
I get what you are saying.
That’s not what people mean by winning the popular vote n
By that reasoning Bill never won the popular vote. More people always pulled the lever for someone either than Bill Clinton.
She officially will have won the popular vote, because she will have the most votes. In this case it’s a plurality, not a majority. Of course, if we eliminate the illegal votes, especially in California, Trump wins the popular vote. Fortunately, the Electoral College makes all of this moot.
Check MN.
Third party Guy (Evan McMullin?)got 1.5%
Trump loss margin in Minnesota: 1.5%
It would have been very close w/o 3rd party
Well...they’re wrong. She will not win a majority of the popular vote.
In Utah she tied at 21% with that derp who ran 3rd party.
I swear these guys cannot count.
They want to act like there were only votes cast for Republicans and Democrats.
She lost the popular vote and the electoral college.
Worth recalling:
In 1988 Dukakis lost to GHWB with 44% of the vote.
In 1992 Clinton beat GHWB with 43%.
It’s always been recognized that Bill Clinton won both times with only a plurality. The point the left is trying to make with the ‘popular vote’ argument is that she received more votes than Trump.
However that is winning at a game neither was playing. They were both playing for EVs, not popular votes. DJT never held a rally in CA because he wouldn’t win the state’s EVs. Had the contest been for popularl votes, Republican-oriented/conservative voters might have bothered to come out but they know in CA with the EV system their votes doesn’t count.
I get what you’re saying. But at the same time if they are going outside the rule of Electoral Votes, why not look at ALL of the votes? The MAJORITY of the people did not want her.
That’s correct. In the last 8 elections (1988-2016) The Repubs have won a majority of the popular vote twice (1988 & 2004) and so have the Dems (2008 & 2012).
It’s important to push back with the point that more people didn’t want her than wanted her.
If Trump had tried to win the popular vote he would likely have won that. Trump went to Northern Wisconsin and Middle Michigan to win the states. If he just needed the popular vote he would have been around big cities. But he conceded them to Hillary because he could win the electoral college without them.
That is why city people are so amazed that Trump won. They never heard Trump ads. They did not see Trump rallies. Trump was very efficient. So, when I went to Chicago and told them Trump was going to win. They laughed at me. They thought I was a right winged nut. Everyone they knew was for Hillary. There was no opposition. But all the counties around Chicago and all the states around Illinois where voting for Trump. Big shock for them.
But electoral votes are what count and she certailly did not win that.
2016 had the highest third party vote (5.6%) in 20 years (1996) when Perot took about 8.5% and the rest another 1.5%.
Let’s not forget about the 60,000 Felons who had their voting rights restored By Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe just before the election. And the 206,000 that he did the same thing for back on April 22nd of this year. Those who received McAuliffes letter also got voter registration forms with pre-paid return postage. No others in Virginia received such a service.
Yes, but I use my OP talking point to push back on the Clintonites.
You did make excellent points.
70,608,915 votes were not cast for Hillary.
That is a difference of 6,773,493 compared to the 63,835,422 votes she garnered.
She lost the popular vote, period.
