Jurgen was a great player. As a manager, not so much. He took every bit of criticism and externalized it by way of blaming everyone and anyone. When the players got tired of the coach not having their backs, it was ovah.

Think it’s a mistake. Juergen took the US team to a far higher level of play and also was showing some real positives in player development.

It would take getting rid of basketball and football for 'soccer' to have a larger supply of elite athletes developing in the US.

That being said, CAF has never developed a World Cup champion. So it might not be that simple.

Good change! Haven't really followed JK's recruits, but it seems his foreign born stars did not pan out. He was riding Bruce and Bradley's picks: Dono, Demps, Tim H, Beasley, Bradley, etc.

Bruce was exciting in '02 then lost some footing. I like his position on building the team w/ US-born players. I am willing to go through the growing pains to develop our own boys instead of recruiting overseas.

The USMNT needs some magic. We still have no attack...let's face it, Jozy could!d not get it done; Demps is the best but he's going on 12 years on the ntl team!

Bruce Arena took the US to the Final Eight of the World Cup, and only a brilliant save from Oliver Kahn kept the US from at least tying Germany in the Quarter Finals.

I am not convinced that Klinsmann is such a great coach. When he coached the German national team, it is an open secret that it was actually Jogi Löw who did most of the work. Klinsi was just the motivator. At Bayern München he was unsuccessful and quickly replaced.

I bet his contract is guaranteed. If you were looking at the possibility of being paid for years after getting fired would you be worried?

Or he was specifically talking about not really worrying. Really though a coach at the pro level has to be 100% confident all the way up until they get fired. Otherwise they can’t do their job. You see the same thing in all sports, coaches on the hot seat always say they’re not worried, even the ones that don’t make it to their office from the press conference.

What I said was completely serious. Really, when was the last time you saw a coach at a major level say they were worried about their job security? I’m betting NEVER, because they just don’t say that. Even if they look off stage and see the owner and the GM and a pile of boxes the answer is always “I am confident my position is secure”. That’s reality, that is the answer that MUST be given, doing otherwise is unprofessional and impedes their ability to get the next job.
