I’m betting both are correct.
He knows quite well it’s useless to blow his stack and rant at them, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he said exactly what was quoted in that article, calm and even tempered as could be...

They need to pull the First Amendment protections from the press. Keep them intact for the rest named in the First Amendment but they have so abused it, it must be pulled from them. They need to be liable when they do this stuff without the protection of the First Amendment.
