Why are Russians so optimistic about Trump?
russia-direct.org ^ | 11/21/2016 | Daniel Kozin

By all accounts, the relationship over the past two years has been dreadful. The Ukraine crisis gave way to the worst period in U.S.-Russia relations since the end of the Cold War, resulting in mutual sanctions, aggressive military exercises, bellicose rhetoric, the possibility of a military confrontation in Syria, and a total breakdown in communication and cooperation....

... Trump’s pre-election position on Russia took everyone by surprise last July when he said: “Wouldn't it be a great thing if we could actually get along with Russia?”

...

Trump’s overarching world view, based on national interests, is seen, paradoxically, as being more predictable for Russia than the liberalism of Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. Whereas the latter emphasize value-based issues like the humanitarian imperative and the support of civil society and democratic movements, Trump appears to be a devoted realist, willing to cooperate on matters of mutual interest.

When looking at the history of the U.S.-Russia relationship, partnership based on mutual interests seems to be a lot more successful than partnership based on mutual values.

...

Skeptics say that Trump’s more farfetched positions - such as his stance on Russia, may be moderated by his future advisors once he reaches the White House. ...As reiterated most recently by Obama, the U.S. President doesn’t single-handedly determine U.S. foreign policy; it is influenced by diplomats, intelligence officers, and military officials, which provides for a strategic continuity that goes beyond administrations.

The seriousness of the task of restoring relations was not lost on the Kremlin.

"An atmosphere of mutual trust takes years to achieve. It's not possible to just declare that there is an atmosphere of mutual trust, especially after such serious damage was done in the last few years to our relations" said Peskov.

Obama went on a world apology tour. Trump should go on a world apology tour and apologize for 8 years if Obama stirring up trouble practicing regime change.

“I think it has to do with Trump being in a position where he barely squeaked out a win in the election.”

Your loony words stand for themselves.

306 to 232 isn’t squeaking out a win. And he also won the electoral vote unless you count Mexican citizens of which 2 million plus voted.

Because 0bama would go to war with Russia to protect his ISIS buddies and his own legacy, Trump won't.

Personally I believe the Russians understand Marxism much better than 0bama ever did.
When they heard 0bama spew the same subversive garbage that Putin KNOWS originated from their own Kremlin think tank, they lost all respect.

Hillary’s “reset” was a fake!

Even the button said “overload”—which turned out to be no mistake at all!!

“In one of his earliest new foreign policy initiatives, President Obama sought to reset relations with Russia and reverse what he called a “dangerous drift” in this important bilateral relationship. President Obama and his administration have sought to engage the Russian government to pursue foreign policy goals of common interest – win-win outcomes — for the American and Russian people.”
—whitehouse.gov (06/20/10) press release

Trump: “I would treat Vladimir Putin firmly but there’s nothing that I can think of that I’d rather do than have Russia friendly — as opposed to the way they are right now — so that we can go and knock out ISIS together along with other people and with other countries,” he said. “Wouldn’t it be nice if we actually got along with people?”

“Trump’s ideas on Russia alarming allies, many in U.S.”
Nancy Benac/AP (07/30/16)

“Foreign policy experts of all stripes ‘are left slack-jawed’ by Trump’s pronouncements, said Derek Chollet, a senior adviser at the German Marshall Fund and former Pentagon official in the Obama administration.”

Pretty much subtract California, Seattle, NYC, Boston, and Chicago, and Hillary has no popular vote “win”.

And since Trump didnt even win those places, then they matter even less.

so why is this like some new idea.

Because the media makes money off of it. Imagine if they said, "This is nothing new. Hillary had the same theme when she was SOS."

Viewers would flip the channel.

WHY would you believe ANYthing any US official says? Their news agencies, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN lie to the American people like TASS and PRAVDA lie to the Russian people.

I could see the two of them (maybe with China and France) going into the back room of the Kremlin with a world map and cut up the world. Trump “Vlad, you can have Turkey and Syria. I will take Cuba and Vietnam. China, you can have North Korea, France, you can have Libya and Haiti.”
Putin: “I want Ukraine and Serbia.” Trump: “Go ahead —you can have Keiv—I gave them up to you when I took office.”
Putin: “Thank you—You can build a hotel in St. Petersburg Mr. Trump if you like.”

Americans CAN go to other sources, which could be more reliable. The Russians might not have that option.

Putin threatens NATO. He wants it destroyed. He longs for the days when his nation, with its GULAG and its empire, were paramount and perceived as a coequal to the USA. Putin thinks Trump is gullible and malleable due to his reaction to a few mere compliments. Putin fears the Russian people will punish him for his thefts of their wealth and the theft by the oligarchs that support him and his revanchnist agenda. Putin thinks that by forming common cause with the USA against Islamists he can be rewarded with a few nations, maybe in the Baltics. We can only hope that this transparently fatuous scheme of Putin’s dies and that making America Great doesn’t mean ignoring Putin’s neo-empire agenda.

A lot of the states were won by a close call. I hope he keeps war to a minimum. I’m confident he will do that.

"Their news agency, TASS and their newsrag PRAVDA are anything but."

Actually, the AP and NYT have swapped places with TASS and PRAVDA. These days, we are more likely to get accurate reporting from the Russian media than from our own.
