Turkey is a good example to study. The cities are inhabited by a capitalistic cosmopolitan educated class whereas the rural areas are largely inhabited by the opposite categories.
Radical Islam has crept into rural southeast Turkey by way of a contagion from Iran, Syria, Northern Iraq. The rural Muslims there have been radicalized.
Atatürk faced the same radical type elements and succeeded in putting them in a box for a long time. That's why I study the history of Atatürk. It's instructive and provides clues on how to deal with the ideological aspects of the Islamic menace.
