“Second, please remember States’ (and localities’) Rights. A mayor must execute the laws given by the City Council, to include Sanctuary City laws. So, here the city’s and nation’s laws conflict.”

But on immigration, federal law controls. Immigration is a federal issue. I believe there are immigration laws specifically addressing the mayor of Chicago’s behavior in aiding illegal aliens and not cooperating with the federal government.

I believe to be treason we would have to be at war. I don’t think it would apply.

Apologies - notan expert here - just trying to stimulate 10th Amendment thought...

The only mention in the Constitution is this in Article I section 8 “To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization”

It has been argued that this is not exactly “immigration”.

Which means - let’s be consistent republic-ans - the 10th Amendment applies.

That said, IMHO it does and should become a Federal job. But by the 10th Amendment, states can override. If say a state needs extra programmers and Trump has cut off Elbonia, they should be allowed to import them from Elbonia.

But the rest of us shouldn’t be forced to pay for the Elbonians’ medical care. Cut off their funding.
