DETROIT Ford Motor Co. had considered moving production of the Lincoln MKC to Mexico, but instead the compact premium crossover will remain at the Louisville Assembly Plant, the automaker confirmed Thursday night.
Ford spokeswoman Christin Baker said the Cuautitlan plant was the likely new plant for the MKC when the automakers deal with the UAW expires in 2019.
But now the automaker plans to build the next generation of the MKC in Louisville, Kelli Felker, Fords global manufacturing and labor communications manager told Automotive News late Thursday.
Don’t kid yourself, our car parts have been foreign made for years, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Germany and France among others. I doubt there is a fully American made auto and the fault is not with the foreigners who make them, but the American unions and their demands.
My wife has had a Canadian made MKX (fancy Ford Edge)since 2013. So far it’s been a wonderful vehicle and the most comfortable vehicle we’ve ever owned. The unions have to meet Trump halfway. If he’s going to take on China and Mexico it’s not for the purpose of enriching the UAW - it’s to give blue collar Americans a real future.
Obama did this, and now Trump is getting all the credit./sarc

The MSM is missing the point. Several points, actually:
Production of the MKC is staying in KY as opposed to moving out of the US. So, unless FORD is moving more of something else out of the US, and not telling us, we end up with more US jobs from Ford, somewhere, than we otherwise would.
While potentially politically damaging to himself if he falls short, I’d like to see President-elect Trump address a couple issues, to sort of “force” the MSM to discuss them:
Job retention, while desirable, is by itself, insufficient. The US needs strong job growth, reflecting full time employment (or the equivalent), and income growth. Job growth that significantly exceeds population growth would be around 300,000 jobs per month, each “job” consisting of 40 hours of work a week.
Also, I hope President-elect (and President-in-Office) Trump hammers the point that by the promise of a more friendly business environment, Ford is keeping the MKC production in the US. Tariffs as “punishment” should be the last resort.
