Nevada: Brave Fight, Heartbreaking loss, Gun Control Proposition Passes

nevada-question-1-nra

In 2016, Nevada was one of four states facing Michael Bloomberg funded attacks on Second Amendment rights.  As with most such attacks, deceit and misdirection were the focus.  Outright lies were repeated endlessly.  Much was made of bogus “studies” that  were carried out by activists behind the flimsiest of academic cover.  Second Amendment defenders in Nevada were outspent 3 to 1 in cash outlays, 19.7 million dollars to 6.6 million from Second Amendment supporters, primarily the NRA.

The key to the proposition was what it was being marketed as doing, compared to what it would really do.

On that question, cash was merely the tip of the iceberg.  The direct media support for the Bloomberg measure was immense.  Never has the media been so overtly partisan as in 2016.  That was reflected in the broadcast media in Nevada, which showed itself to be focused in favor of the gun control proposition. The media situation was similar to the media situation in Washington State in 2014, where a similar measure was passed with Bloomberg money.

Proponents claimed that the measure would only require “background checks” and that it would stop criminals and the mentally ill from obtaining firearms.  Both promises were misleading.  But it is hard to convey the complexity of the falsehoods in the face of brazen media complicity in the big lie.

First, background checks have never correlated with reduced crime.  They do not work.  States that instituted background checks have not seen crime reductions.

Second, the measure required far more than background checks.  It would have been easy to design a system where background checks were done, without recording sensitive information such as gun owner identities and gun serial numbers.  Instead, the proposal in Nevada specifically demands that this information

Nevada was the only state where the NRA backed Senator lost the race, and it was close. Nevada is the third most urbanized state in the United States.

“Nevada is the third most urbanized state in the United States.”

What? Aside from Clark and Washoe Counties, Nevada has no people! I guess your definition of “urbanized” is way different than mine.

Seems to me Las Vegas could be “dealt with.”. Put an end to icky coal burning in New Mexico and find an endangered smelt upstream of the Hoover Dam. No electricity, no Las Vegas.

Urbanized means all the people are jammed into the cities and disarmed. No space to practice even if they wanted to. Nevada’s PTB can easily keep it that way by playing games with water.

More specifically, Illegal Aliens from Mexico (and other Central American Countries) that illegally voted, as encouraged by Obama.

This is the trash we voted for Trump to remove from our country!

I hope the NRA goes through the voter rolls and has this thrown out.

and then there are liberals who will see something like "Vote NO for Proposition 1" and they will just flip the level if it's published by a celebrity they like without know that NO might mean Yes to legislation depending on how they word it. And even then they might not even know that they actually voted for!

Liberals and their word games. They even have to lie on how it's worded to fool the people into voting the way they want them to.

After Trump’s SCOTUS pick is confirmed, these gun control measures in NV, CA and elsewhere should be challenged. The CA Prop that requires background checks every time you buy ammo is particularly outrageous.

Hey, the 9th Circuit threw out several of our propositions in the 90’s that were voted in by the people in landslides.

Trump needs to look beyond the SCOTUS and fill as many other Federal judgeships with Constitutional judges as possible.

Nevada has the third highest percentage of the state population living in urban centers.

Surprised me as well.

Kind of like Australia.

Take it to SCOTUS as soon as Trump gets his picks in place.

“But it is hard to convey the complexity of the falsehoods in the face of brazen media complicity in the big lie.”

The 2014 law in Washington State makes one do a background check of any gun “transfer”. But - it takes 18 pages to spell it all out. While it IS okay to let my 17 year old daughter, or my wife use my gun at a “registered” gun range (there is no such thing) - I can’t let my adult son try my shotgun at the trap range.

BUT - we are all law-abiding citizens in Washington State, as nobody in the state these past two years has been arrested for such an illegal transfer.

Regarding the ‘Californication’ ad thing I suspect that
Nevada is partially responsible for their own plight as
are some other states that actively recruit businesses
away from the urban areas of California. The truth is
that California did the same thing back in the 1960s
and 1970s when they recruited businesses based in the
liberal parts of the Northeast.

As a native of the state I don’t care for the term
‘Californication ‘. My state didn’t invent the poison
of liberalism, we just drank copious quantities of it.
Other states eventually decided they wanted a
taste so they got busy wrestling the poison away from
California. So, fortify your state gun laws to protect
yourselves. Are you listening, Texas FRiends?

We had the same ballot measure here in Maine.

It was called Measure 3.

So-called “universal background checks.”

The police chiefs here in Maine supported it’s passage, and some of them did commercials in favor of the measure.

The elected Sheriffs of Maine were opposed to the passage of super-duper background checks, and did commercials in opposition....the only TV commercials.

Bloomberg spent $6 million here in Maine....the NRA supposedly spent $1 million. There were very few anti-Measure 3 commercials here in Maine....the gun grabbers had endless commercials on TV and radio.

Bloomberg and company were defeated in Maine, 52% to 48%.
