Don't mess with Texas (or their horses). Prosecute to the full extent of the law and add some ASPCA violations, as well.

In most states, punching or harming a police animal is like punching or harming a police officer and those punishments are not light

Apparently the horse retorted that Dore “hits like a girl.”

She’s lucky.Horses will strike with their front hooves. It’s like getting hit with a sledge hammer.

horses can prosecute their assailants themselves quite effectively with a hoof or a nip.
To: Farmer Dean
Nah, not most of the time. Most shy away first. Has to be either cornered or one ornery horse to immediately lash out (especially front - it’s not as easy as bucking).
But this brings to mind - why don’t police horses get training like dressage for just these types of scenarios?
Oh, I know, the police will get in trouble for using a 1500-lb animal like that.

“Horses will strike with their front hooves.” I didn’t know that. I suppose the horse would just bend on front knee and swing it out at the target. Even that slight movement could snap a shin bone of an ill mannered human!
In a world of poetic justice, the “Injured Party”, meaning the horse she hit, would be able to return the favor and hit her back in a controlled environment.
Off Topic: Elephants are well known to become crabby and strike out.

Six months in jail sounds about right. Two years might be better.

We have 3 quarterhorses out of the same sire, who was the strike king. They’re all good natured horses but they will strike if provoked.

I’ve been kicked by a horse. Makes it hard to be all warm and fuzzy about them.
