It has been reported that 22 veterans take their own lives, every day.
Curtis Gearhart, a 32-year-old veteran who served two tours in Iraq, after having been told he would have to wait weeks and weeks for treatment by the VA, tragically decided to take his own life on Monday, November 7.
Two months ago, Gearhart went to the VA because of recurring headaches. Apparently he previously had a tumor and was worried about it; the VA told him it would be five to six weeks.
FIVE TO SIX WEEKS.
Those in the VA are murderers and should lose
their pensions, and face grand juries.
I’m sorry, until we take care of our vets before we take care of Pookie and Jose, I will not recommend national service to any young people.
I don’t know about other facilities, but my VA facility, I have a direct line to my doctors nurse that I can call at anytime either to discus medications or treatment and for any urgent problem, they can work you in, in a day or two. I suspect many of these stories we hear about are first time patients and have not been set up with their primary care doctor. Yes it took about 6 or 7 weeks for me to get my first appointment but after that, no problem.
I know how to solve this, albeit in a radical fashion. For every vet that commits suicide after waiting for 3 weeks, for example, we randomly select a VA employee for execution. That would speed up the operation.
They got bonuses for DELETING the names of Vets on waiting lists.
No indictments. Nobody fired. Nothing.
Pathetic.
Those who serve / served our country deserve the best from us.
Why does it take 6 or 7 weeks for an appointment?
Sounds like there is room for improvement.
Not sure why 5 to 6 weeks is an issue. I am private pay with insurance and I had to wait over 2 months to get into a cardiologist. It is common to wait 6 weeks to get into a doctor when we are in CA. Even in So Dak (summer home) 3 to 4 weeks is normal.
Never a “safe space” for the Vets.
Never a sanctuary city for the Vets.
Never a clean bill for the Vets.
My health insurance jumped 70% since CrapCare took effect. I wouldn’t bitch if the rate hikes were effectively benefiting the Vets. But unfortunately, CrapCare amounts to nothing more than waste and fraud.
Yes, TigerClaws, Trump must make this issue a priority.
I am sure there is always room for improvement but like other government services the hardest part is getting qualified for eligibility and getting into the system.
You did read he was suicidal?
“Okay, come back in a month or two” isn’t the response we need to give PTSD suffering vets!
Yes.
Wouldn’t it be grand if cities offered sanctuary to Veterans?
If you are a veteran and come to our town we will help you to recover, rebuild, prevail and prosper!
Terrible sad.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs ?
Pull the federal funding to sanctuary cities and let it be known the funds will go to cities that do exactly that.
My husband has the same. He is also able to go to a local hospital in case of emergency and it is covered.
“Yes it took about 6 or 7 weeks for me to get my first appointment but after that, no problem.”
That is not acceptable. Not at all. There is no reason why a vet’s service cannot be verified and at least be given a routine checkup on the same day.
In the pre-Clinton era, I did just that. I never believed my Vet Svc Officer when he said all I had to do was walk in with a cold and get service. I tried that, it worked. That same day I was also diagnosed with Graves disease and immediately treated.
Things have really slipped since the establishment has been in charge. There is just no way any vet should have to wait more than a day or so.
I could write a book about what the VA did to my father. Nobody would believe it though. I think it’s criminal.
I must add to my earlier post, that the Clinton regime terminated my VA med treatment because I made too much money.
Now that I am retired, and a combat vet, I supposedly am qualified. I reapplied 1 1/2 years ago, no answer. I really don’t care. If they are that incompetent, I really do not want that kind of care. I’d rather pay for it downtown.
