I read Cuckerberg’s letter, and it doesn’t look like they’ll do very much. There is a category of hoax news way beyond what anyone would consider “conservative”, we wouldn’t allow it here at Free Republic, so I don’t particularly enjoy seeing it in my news feed.
I think it’s great that he’s getting rid of CNN, MSNBC, NYT, WP, ABC, CBS, and NBC.
I do Twitter and receive nothing but conservative news and reports. I block or unfollow any liberal or neocon I see. Like here, I can pick which MSM links I want to follow.
Really? Wow. Biased towards Trump? I think they had better check the premise. Trump supporters routinely had their news, thoughts, and comments removed. Hillary? Nope!

Those of us on FB have been inundated with, "Hillary opened her e-mail and found THIS ... you'll be amazed" type crap and when you click, you find it's a 4 months old story about when she learned Weiner was showing it again

I did not read the article. That said (and if you did read anything where it says he’s targeting conservatives) I will stand corrected.
Over the last year or so on facebook you will see articles come up “RIP Betty White” implying that Betty White had passed away. That comes around at least once every 6 months. Also, fake death stories of other famous people. And everytime I head over to Drudge and Google and NOTHING about the death.
Then there are other things that pop-up in time lines. “You wont guess what this man found beneath the foor of his cellar. So, you click on it and read a sentence of the story surrounded by ads and then have to click NEXT only to read another sentence or two before having to click NEXT again, by the eighth “NEXT” you end up giving up on the story and exiting the website
I’m sure all of you have run into these hoaxes and fake stories (perhaps in other places and not facebook). Well, on Facebook they seem to appear more and more.
This is what I believe is what is being referred to. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Will crack down on what Z defines as fake news and hoaxes.Anything unfavorable to the Left is by definition “fake news” or a hoax.+ This is going to get worse and worse. The biggest danger is not UN control but being cut out of the internet by American communists and Moslems.If our side does not manage to replace FB and other platforms with our own successfully we will be cut out of the national discourse.
I think that Facebook is reaching the realm of diminishing returns with censorship.
The smaller and smaller core of true believers will not care that their news is being censored. But for the mass of people who get some of their news from Facebook and some from other sources, they have to realize that they are not getting the full story on Facebook anymore.
Once they know they are being kept in the dark, they will become more prone to believe rumors and “fake news”.
I know it happened before 2000, so Zuckerberg probably doesn’t know about it, but the amount of “news” that circulated in the former Soviet Union was about a hundred times more than what got printed in Pravda. People traded rumors constantly, and got far more information from the grapevine than they ever got through official channels.
How many are currently using Facebook? A hundred million?
I know they monitor what is posted but at some point a human has to intervene if you plan on censoring what is posted.
Is it possible to monitor and censor Facebook?
Meme get posted and unless you “read” them you will not know if they are pro or anti anything (most are just silly)

I used my Facebook account to campaign for Trump, never got a nibble on being censored.
No, Facebook is gaining a life of its own and will be difficult to control. All they can do is shut it down (and with billions of dollars at stake, I don’t think they will).
He already has in the past. No sense letting a crisis go un exploited. He’ll just open the censorship genie bottle a little wider. The most uninformed people in the country rely on Facebook as their primary news outlet. I know a lot of them.
Make room for 100% pure statist approved propaganda.
“...Facebook will crack down on fake news and hoaxes...” All this means is that the liberal MSM will be considered true news and conservative media will be considered fake news. In other words, no change on Facebook.
