(CNN)House Speaker Paul Ryan said Sunday despite Donald Trump's campaign rhetoric, lawmakers are not prepared to form a deportation force to round-up and deport undocumented immigrants.
"We are not planning on erecting a deportation force. Donald Trump's not planning on that," Ryan told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union."
"I think we should put people's minds at ease: That is not what our focus is. That is not what we're focused on. We're focused on securing the border. We think that's first and foremost, before we get into any other immigration issue, we've got to know who's coming and going into the country -- we've got to secure the border," he added.
Ryan deflected questions about whether he'd support Trump's calls to slap hefty tariffs on imports from countries like Mexico.
Instead, Ryan said, he supports tax reforms to address the same challenges "without any adverse effects -- without any collateral damage to the economy."
The House speaker also said he is on board with Trump's call to keep some elements of President Barack Obama's signature health care law.
But he won't commit to mandating insurance coverage of birth control for women at no cost.
"Obamacare is failing. It must be replaced. We're going to do that. We're excited about it ... We can fix what is broken in health care without breaking what is working in health care," Ryan said.
The Wisconsin Republican said he agrees with Trump's comment to CBS' "60 Minutes" that Obamacare's laws against barring those with pre-existing conditions from receiving coverage and allowing those up to age 26 to remain on their parents' insurance can stay in place even as the GOP pushes to repeal Obamacare.

Come on Representatives, if you want your seat again in your next election, or if your seat is open in 2018, you best get rid of this idiot...
RINO RYAN does NOT run the country, WE the American Voters do!!!
Derinofication of leadership positions should be one of Trump’s top priorities.
We already have one. Let them do their job.
I think he has seen a lot during the course of the campaign and has a fair idea now.
Dude, We are not going to round up 11-15 million and send them packing. It ain’t going to happen. The first step is to control our border with any number of tactics that I am sure will be announced. After that, the people that are here illegally will be dealt with humanely and respectfully. My guess is a date will be announced that all illegal immigrants must sign up at the Post office (for example) by a date certain and get some sort of number. Following that date, anyone without a number or other documentation will be deported according to our laws. Thank god about that.
The ones who have a number will likely get some sort of deal...which needs to be worked out. Maybe they can stay forever but won’t be able to vote. I don’t know what the deal might be.
Or maybe, Trump just announces starting on such and such a date all of our laws will be strictly followed. People will then self deport as Romney put it. The bottom line is, no huge force is coming to get anyone.
We can agree the government created this mess. Both parties.
That’s right. All the laws/regulations are in place. It only takes enforcement. The law is already on Trump’s side.
Amen. Great point.
This ain't rocket science. The only piece you left out is the amount of government incentives bringing them here... all the free chit.
Who’s this “we”? Ryno sure thinks he’s going to get a free ride from Trump.
“House Speaker Paul Ryan said Sunday despite Donald Trump’s campaign rhetoric, lawmakers are not prepared to form a deportation force to round-up and deport undocumented immigrants.”
Well, Mr. Prick, he will do what Eisenhower did: use the already existing, lawfully delegated force enforcing the laws already on the books.
He has been doing that for 8 years. Glad you figured that out.
Dude,
You don’t read very well. I said CRIMINAL illegals.
Go back and read my post again.
And to deport criminal illegals we are going to need extra manpower.
Or would you prefer, criminal illegals be left alone?
Trump needs is strict rigorous enforcement all laws on the books. Kind of like the enforcement of tax laws.
Just enforce the Law...bump!
Wow. Very intelligent post. You got me beat. Well done my friend.
I’d bet that many of our criminal illegals are already leaving or preparing their exits in order to avoid facing our laws being enforced under President Trump.
Trust me, I’ve worked in DC. Its a cesspool and political morass beyond anything Trump can imagine. Nothing can prepare him for what he’s about to step into. Its going to be a herculean job to even begin the process of cleaning it up.
No, Tapper was trying to undermine Trump. What a POS. We ALREADY have a “deportation force”. It’s called ICE, CBP, etc.
I see an increase in the DOJ budget coming
