Calgary man shows medical record as proof of election night assault (HOAX)

Chris Ball says he did not report attack to Santa Monica police, but did go to a hospital for stitches.

In response to allegations that the attack did not happen, or was a hoax, Chris Ball has provided Metro with a picture of his hospital discharge form, indicating he was treated for a head wound at West Hills Hospital on Nov. 9, 2016.

When asked for comment, West Hills Hospital said they could not share personal information.

Ball also provided a picture taken of the wound taken on the night of the incident, after he was treated.

Lt. Saul Rodriguez, pubic information officer with the Santa Monica Police, said that he did not recieve any calls about the incident, which he thought was odd considering Santa Monica is a heavily population centre. Calgarian Chris Ball was left with five staples in his head from the hospital – but he said the bloody picture makes it look worse than it really was.

Calgarian Chris Ball was left with five staples in his head from the hospital – but he said the bloody picture makes it look worse than it really was.

“It’s very common that when a victim of a crime come to a hospital, they call the call the local police department. In this particular case, we did not receive any phone calls," he said.

When presented with information from the hospital discharge form, Rodriguez said that the hospital is not actually within Santa Monica.

“The city of the West Hills is actually about 25 or 30 miles north of us. So, it’s not necessarily in or anywhere near Santa Monica," he said.

Police had checked hospitals within Santa Monica after hearing about the incident from social media.

UPDATE: Nov. 11 at 8:49 a.m. ET: The Santa Monica Police Department has responded to reports of this incident with the following statement:

You may have seen an unconfirmed story regarding a possible hate crime incident involving a “Chris Ball” alleging he was assaulted in Santa Monica on election night, November 8, by “Trump Supporters”.

The Santa Monica Police Department and the City of Santa Monica have not received any information indicating this crime occurred in the City of Santa Monica. We encourage the alleged victim to come forward and work with us if a crime did in fact take place. A check of local hospitals revealed there was no victim of any such incident admitted or treated as well.

If you have any questions, please contact Public Information Officer, Lt. Saul Rodriguez, (310) 458-2293.

Metro is following up on this development and more updates will be coming. The original story is below.

Calgary film producer Chris Ball is coming back from America’s presidential election with five staples holding together the gash on top of his head.

Ball spent the evening in a Santa Monica, Calif. bar watching poll results come in. As the election progressed, he said attitudes in the bar became more and more heated – on both sides of the campaign.

“People started launching homophobic slurs at me from afar,” he said. “I mean, I kind of got into it, but I didn’t want to provoke them.”

They were saying things like, ‘We got a new president you f--king faggots.’

When he later left the bar, alone, he was walking through an alley when he was jumped by a group of men – one of which smashed a bottle over his head.

He fell back, his head smashing against the concrete, where he blacked out.

“When I came to, I remember waking up and wiping the blood from my eyes. I called some friends, they picked me up and I went right to the hospital,” he recalled.

He was stitched up at the hospital and said he’s feeling fine.

Santa Monica police were not immediately available for comment to confirm details of Ball’s account.

In retrospect, Ball doesn’t think it was really a political issue – it was a hate issue, fuelled by the charged atmosphere of the election night, with a group of drunk people who used Trump’s rhetoric as an excuse to get in a fight. He feels it could very well have been a Clinton supporter, or just someone else with a homophobic attitude on any other night – it’s an ongoing issue.

He does feel, as Americans are more charged up, incidents like these may come up more in the near future, but he doesn’t feel this event is representative of all Americans, or even all Trump supporters.

“I’m in pretty good spirits. That’s just how I have to handle it. I’m alive and well and still very gay,” he laughed.

“Calgary film producer Chris Ball...”

Ah, a gay, aspiring media person just happens to get assaulted by a mob of Trump supporters in Santa Monica?!? Isn’t that a heavily Democrat area?

Sounds about right. The ranks of the liberals are full of “aspiring media personalities”, “aspiring actors”, and “aspiring musicians”, which sounds better than “unemployed loser”.

one of [whom] smashed a bottle over his head.

You had a bottle smashed over your head and you only have five stitches, but no skull fracture?

You've seen too many movies, dumb@ss. Try breaking a bottle on your kitchen table and get back to us about the likelihood that you aren't in intensive care -- or the morgue.

More likely his boyfriend hit him with a rolling pin when he came in past curfew.

In Santa Monica? I find that difficult to believe.

It’s a heavily gay area and I’d be surprised if 1% of Santa Monica voted for Trump. Trump got 23.4% of the votes in Los Angeles County, compared to 33.1% of the state. Just under 1 in 5 people in the whole area supported Trump and they wouldn’t be hanging out in a bar in Santa Monica shouting fag this and fag that.

I find that story to be laughably false.

I also don’t think he fell down and hit his head because he was drunk. FredZarguna discussed that in post 7. He’s right about the damage, but wrong about part of the result.

Put on a leather work glove and smash a beer bottle on a rock. Wear the glove because the neck might shatter in your hand. It takes a lot of force to break it and it makes a lot of sharp pieces. You’d have to hit him a lot harder than that to knock him out. Drunk people can absorb all kinds of punishment.

He would need much more than five staples. They also wouldn’t send him home if he was hit in the head hard enough to knock him out. The risk of death from a concussion would be serious enough that they would observe him for at least twelve hours to ensure that his brain wasn’t swelling and threatening his life.

If he was drunk and fell down, he wouldn’t get up and go call his friends. He’d lay there until the bar patrons or the cops found him and put him in an ambulance. When he regained consciousness, he’d be alert and oriented by maybe 1. A and O by 3 means you’re aware of your person, place, and circumstance. He’d know who he was, but it would take time before he remembered where he was and what happened.

I think he had a hissy fit and bashed his head against the wall until he bled.

Hoax.
