Nigel Farage: Donald Trump 'delayed phone call to Theresa May over insults from Tory ministers'
Donald Trump delayed calling Theresa May after his historic election victory because of insults hurled at him by senior Tory cabinet members, Nigel Farage has suggested.
Mr Farage, the interim Ukip leader, singled out former London mayor Boris Johnson for criticism as he spoke from the US where he plans to meet figures within the president-elect's team.
Mr Trump made nine phone calls to presidents and prime ministers before he spoke with Mrs May following his stunning upset over Hillary Clinton on Tuesday.
Mr Farage was asked whether Mrs Mays position on Mr Trumps list of calls should cause concern for the Anglo-American relationship.
He said: Well, you have to face the facts that there are some very senior members of this administration who have said some very rude things about him.
Pressed on whether he opted not to Mrs May before several other world leaders was payback for criticism levelled by some Tories, he added: You'd have to draw your own conclusions on that. But this president is instinctively Anglophile."
Ministers played down the delay, insisting the "special relationship" between the US and the UK remained intact.
Mrs May was invited to Washington about the relationship between the two countries and about strengthening trade and investment.
Boris Johnson launched a stinging attack on the now president-elect in the wake of controversial comments he made about banning Muslims from the US.
The foreign secretary also took exception to remarks that some areas of London were "no go areas" for the police.
He said: I think Donald Trump is clearly out of his mind if he thinks that's a sensible way to proceed, to ban people going to the United States in that way, or to any country.
"What he's doing is playing the game of the terrorists and those who seek to divide us. That's exactly the kind of reaction they hope to produce.
"I think he's betraying a quite stupefying ignorance that makes him frankly unfit to hold the office of President of the United States."
Mr Farage said he will be encouraging the Republican to make the UK his priority but No 10 dismissed the Ukip politician as irrelevant and rubbished claims he could act as a go-between between Mr Trump and the Government.
A No 10 spokesman said Mr Trump had set out his "close and personal connections with, and warmth for, the UK" and expressed confidence the special relationship would go "from strength to strength".
Absolutely none of them, other than Farage, saw this coming. None of them.
L
Well, we have domestic and transatlantic twits. Who knew?
Wasn’t it she who was supposed to call and congratulate Trump? Why didn’t she call him?
Boris seems to go out of his way to broadcast that he wants to be fired. Stupefyingly wierd.
Shut your yap, BJ. I’m so damn sick of Euroweenies who think they’re better at running this country than we are.
Boris Johnson has about as much in common with the old time Tory of that era. He does not even come close to an old fashioned gentlemanly conservative type. As much in common, as the two notorious criminal Kray brothers had with choir boys. (Chuckle).
Well you could have picked up the phone yourself, bitch. After all, HE was just elected, and you're NOT the queen of him (remember?).
Farage is my hero after Trump and Spiderman.
Ugh. Boris Johnson has been revealing his own stunning ignorance for months now - not just about Trump but about Syria.
I can’t believe he’s Foreign Secretary.
I have a great idea since most are willing to leave this country and those abroad are unhappy too why not pick a place where you can start your own utopia. Take the crying sobbing snow flakes with you

How very Neville Chamberlain of him...
Speaking on a whistle-stop tour of capitals in eastern Europe and the Balkans, Mr Johnson lashed out at European leaders for taking a more negative approach to Mr Trump's election.
He said: 'I would respectfully say to my beloved European friends and colleagues that it's time that we snapped out of the general doom and gloom about the result of this election and collective "whinge-o-rama" that seems to be going on in some places.' Mr Johnson added: 'He is after all a deal maker. He wants to do a free trade deal with the UK.
'I believe that this is a great opportunity for us in the UK to build on that relationship with America that is of fundamental economic importance for us but also of great importance for stability and prosperity in the world.'
Two words, "Michael Savage".
Bkmk.
UK is so blackmailed and cowed by islamists in their midst, they no longer know how to talk straight, and are horrified of someone who does.
My wife from London had visited her sister and brother in law about 12 years ago. I know that my spouse (bless her) and relatives are devoutly died in the wool liberal/ socialists.
They were driving through a district and she was told to check her passenger side door to lock it. If you are going slowly "they will open the door and drag your purse out". The Muslims had taken over the whole district.
I remember the spirit of London as a child in WW2. What in the name of heaven would the old time Londoners have made of this? They who stood up to the Luftwaffe. (Excuse my ramble).
Methinks BJ is jealous of Trump and lashes out from this corner. He was even compared to Trump a while ago when he was a major of London.
Your wife saw the results for the common Londoner.
Think about it. Britain was capable to rule Raj (India) with 4000 soldiers. You know how? They used Muslims as a shock troops. Today is the same. The powers that be want to use Islamonazis as shock troops against us all. I am sorry to break it, but they are succeeding, because the most of the affected neither have brains, brawn or decency. That's why there's a week of mourning in Europe and Canada after Trump's victory- cattle getting upset on their way to the slaughterhouse.
