There’s a place for opinionated journalism; in fact, it’s vital. But our causal, profession-wide smugness and protestations of superiority are making us unable to do it well.
Our theme now should be humility. We must become more impartial, not less so. We have to abandon our easy culture of tantrums and recrimination. We have to stop writing these know-it-all, 140-character sermons on social media and admit that, as a class, journalists have a shamefully limited understanding of the country we cover.
What’s worse, we don’t make much of an effort to really understand, and with too few exceptions, treat the economic grievances of Middle America like they’re some sort of punchline. Sometimes quite literally so, such as when reporters tweet out a photo of racist-looking Trump supporters and jokingly suggest that they must be upset about free trade or low wages.
We have to fix this, and the broken reasoning behind it. There’s a fleeting fun to gang-ups and groupthink. But it’s not worth what we are losing in the process.

This is akin to the pollsters who knew they were lying all along, coming out on Wednesday saying, "golly, we sure did it wrong." Yeah, they got it wrong on purpose because they aim to manipulate the public. Same with this CBS report. It is designed to manipulate.
I would cream in my pants-daily.

Look to the First Amendment dear journalist, and therein lies the responsibility of the press to accurately report all the news from all sides of any issue. And you the Press have been woefully negligent in your duties to the American citizens and taxpayers of this land.

Kudos on your contriteness, Will. But it will be years before I ever trust NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, The Times, Wapo, etc.
You’ve built 40 years of illogical group think, perpetuated lie after lie, twisted news stories, told half truths, all the while KNOWING your journalism was corruptly biased for democrats and liberals.
Your system is so far beyond repair it won’t, and shouldn’t recover.
Your right, if HRC would have won, you’d continue with your leftist lies, you’re only humility now is from getting caught with your pants down, hand in the cookie jar.
The mainstream media has years and years of work to do to repair the mess you’ve created.
I sincerely doubt they are up to the challenge.
C’mon. It’s an easy job. You read what comes up in your email, change the words a little bit, just to make it look original, and publish. Bam! Then you get to go to all the nice parties, attend important events, and have your name and picture on TV and the internet. Just don’t try to reach any conclusions on your own, and don’t ask too many difficult questions.

I sincerely believe the corrupt biased media HELPED with the get out the vote effort for Trump. The corrupt media actually helped get the man they maligned 24/7 elected - that is just soooo sweet.
Any changes to tht Standard Procedures will be necessitated by the fact that they won’t have the Democrat White House writing their talking points.
This won’t last.
Y’all remember no weapon formed against him shall prosper .. for God has ordained this man to be the head of our government... nothing is going to stand in his way because God will be a shield about him and a hedge of fire around him! Continue to pray we are not out of the woods yet! I hear his life has been threatened ..., prayer warriors need more than ever to cover him in prayer!! Our job is not over yet!
