Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, held a slight lead today in his bid for re-election over Democratic challenger former Marine Col. Doug Applegate.

Issa had 51 percent of the vote Wednesday morning compared to 49 percent for Applegate, with mail-in and provisional votes still to be counted.

First elected to Congress 16 years ago, Issa won a bare majority of votes in the June primary election after years of being re-elected by double-digit margins.

I thought Issa's district was pretty GOP.

Considering that there are mail-in and provisional ballots yet to be counted, that doesn't sound very positive for Issa's re-election chances.

Anyone wanna weigh in on this race?

I used to live there. North San Diego County is a real mix of everything, plenty of liberals and large Hispanic population. My brother told me he’s got the win. He happens to live down the road from him in Vista. Bumps into him all the time and saw him just the other day vacuuming out his car. He lives quite modestly, especially for his bucks. I guess he recently sold his company. He was on the forefront of car alarms! Very community oriented, we’ll liked.

Issa was a HUGE disappointment, but he’s better than a Democrat.

Sandra Fluke actually campaigned for the Dem! Thanks for the laugh of the day! We had better be on our game in 2018. The Dems are spending massive amount of money trying to buy more House and Senate seats.

I’ve known a few - they were all sea-lawyers.

Performance is going to matter in the next 2 years if we’re going to have a good mid-term. The Dems will be attempting to filibuster, poison and stonewall everything good the GOP might do so that they can run against a “do-nothing” Congress.

I have been contemplating Harry Reid’s triggering of the nuclear option. I hope Trump fills as many seats as he can, as quickly as he can. The Left has had 8 years to destroy impartiality in our various courts. I am aware that a Supreme still needs 60 votes, but I think the Dems had better come along on that. Otherwise they will be obstructing a Justice nomination, from a duly elected POTUS, in his first year.

Applegate is a lawyer. He was in the judge advocate corps in the Marines reserves, or something like that. He has a civilian law practice. He was not an infantry officer, although his ads imply that he is the second coming of Chesty Puller.

He was on the forefront of car alarms! Very community oriented, we’ll liked.

He also writes extremely stern letters to the Obama Administration too.

We’d be hypocrites if we didn’t say Issa wasn’t part of the problem.

Ah so he’s a JAG as well as a sea-lawyer most likely.
