The article is poorly researched and stupid.

What they are trying to discuss (badly) are memes.

Memes spread easily throughout the Internet.

However, the article seems to argue that all memes are created equal--that idiotic and falsifiable rumors and nonsense are as powerful as great insights or important thoughts.

That is a highly debatable proposition--and in my view an unsupported one.

Here at FR (and other discussion sites) we create, discuss, debate, critique these memes. The really dumb ones don't live very long. The brilliant ones have a life of their own and spread throughout the Internet.

Now--time for my wacky take on memes. I believe in the Platonic notion that we are vehicles for the memes and they are the conscious entities.
