Gov. Charlie Baker, the state's most prominent Republican, did not cast a vote for president of the United States for the first time in his life today.
"This is the first time I haven't voted for president and I'm obviously disappointed about that," Baker said outside The First Church in Swampscott, where he was 40th in line to vote - his wife Lauren, 39th - at 7 a.m. in a 35-degree chill.
Baker also passed on penning a write-in candidate. "But you know what? I have lots of friends who are voting for Hillary Clinton. I have lots of friends who are voting for Donald Trump, and I respect their opinion and I respect their decision," he said.
"I said many months ago that I wasn't going to be able to support Donald Trump for a number of reasons" he said of his party's candidate, "and that Hillary Clinton had believability problems. And nothing's happened in the past nine months to change my mind on that.
"Look, everybody gets to make up their mind on how they want to respond on Election Day," Baker said, when asked how voters might view his example to skip a check mark for POTUS. "The good news here is we had a million people who turned out before Election Day and based on the lines ... it's going to be a big turnout day here in Massachusetts."
Most importantly, Baker said once the final results are in, "It's going to be really important for people to send signals and to do things that support the notion that we are still all in this together."
Baker did divulge that he voted for Republican Anne Manning-Martin for Essex County sheriff, saying, "I think she's a terrific person."
As for the four ballot questions, Baker voted no on slot machines, yes on expanding charter school choices, yes on improving the lives of farm animals and no on legalizing recreational marijuana.
I tend to agree....a noticeable civil war in 2018 is likely. If Trump does lose...the Republican candidate in 2020 won’t go beyond 20 million votes. Some of us will never come back to the Republican Party.
If we reach this Hillary-win scenario....I’d say it’s better off to team up with the Bernie crowd in 2020 and get deep into the Democratic primary with comedian-like Democratic and see if a Bernie/Deplorables effort can just make a joke out of the whole process.
Yeah, but out here in CA we’ve had a total of 24 years of “The Browns, eight for Ole Pat and 16 for his son Jerry the Fairy. And don’t get me started about that absolutely worthless Ahnold the Awful. The only “useful” thing he did in while our governator is to bang out a kid with his Mexican maid. When Jerry the Fairy ran for his second term as child governor there were campaign signs that said: “If It’s Brown, Flush It” and he still won.
So why does the Mass. Gov. have a Washington, DC Office -— I think we have found the problem!!!

I will start working next week to make sure this “guy” changes his (R) to either D or I -— voluntarily or not. Please, y’all, help me with this.
RINO needs kicked out of the party.
Ohh. Now I get you. I agree with you. The sorry history of modern Massachusetts is epitomized by the traitor (and murderer) Teddy Kennedy. How far they have fallen since the times of men like Samuel Adams.
If this message were directed towards any other minority group in Boston's diverse population, there would marches, speeches and candlelight vigils against the hate and intolerance:
Boston Graffiti Urges Death on Trump Supporters
With everything Trump has exposed and all the promise he holds, one has to wonder what do the PTB have on these RINOS that they couldn’t bring themselves to support Trump, who after all IS A REPUBLICAN!
Are these people involved in the pedophelia and satan worship too? Seriously!
Perhaps he’s a corrupt, on the take, spirit cooking pedophile and knows he will be go down with a big sucking sound when Trump wins and the swamp is drained.
“How far they have fallen since the times of men like Samuel Adams.”
No kidding:
People here love “higher taxes”
hate guns.
Fireworks: Illegal (except for the Kennedy’s.)
Founding Fathers would not just be disappointed, they would take up arms against the citizenry of MA.
He’s a MAsshole, so it doesn’t really matter.
I would not follow that man into battle. He can’t make tough choices.
Took a train trip from Tacoma to LA just two years ago.
The Golden State sure looked down at the heels. It was a shocker.
Hopefully he did the right thing when he got into the ballot booth this morning. I'm hoping that Charlie Baker actually did color in the Trump circle even though he thinks he gaining political points by saying otherwise.
Just got off the phone to the Gov’s office -— asked the Gov’s rep to make sure he takes the (R0 off his name. He said he has been getting MANY such calls today and it will be relayed to the Gov. Next week, we need to flood Priebus’s office with demands that these people are purged -— period. If we can’t stand up to our own party, we have no hope against the criminal Dems!!!
Haha...Swampscott is a rich preppy ocean town. Mass sent all the refugees and illegals to neighboring Lynn.
I saw his a TV in which he appeared for ballot question 2. How did Mass Freepers voted on that question? Open to anyone who wants to respond.
The people of Maine need to throw this Bum out of office.

I’ve taken the train twice in recent years from Oakland to Los Angeles. I can’ agree with your assessment, excepting parts of Los Angeles, which is a $hit hole thanks to immigration. The problem in California isn’t how it looks so much as who lives here. You can’t have one third of your population from Mexico and not have problems. They’ve come here “for a better life,” but they are only succeeding in turning our once beautiful state into the same $hit hole that they left. It’s just what illiterate people do. They are content to live in squalor and procreate.
That photo looks altered.
