Over the last few weeks a growing number of people have started wondering, "Is it possible the United States is heading for a new civil war?" Granted, most of those people are writers for sites like Russia Today or the Huffington Post, and thus slightly less credible than a handful of Bazooka Joe gum wrapper comics. But Donald Trump has made a few tinpot dictator-ish statements recently.
And we did just see an anti-government militia get off scot-free for occupying a federal building
Every time I wanted to dismiss those headlines I thought about my visit to Ukraine last year, to cover their ongoing civil war. The most common sentence I heard was, "It's like a bad dream." Up to the minute the shooting started, almost no one thought civil war was a serious possibility.
So instead of waking up one day and screaming, "Holy xxxx, I can't believe I didn't take this possibility seriously," I decided to take the possibility seriously. I talked to David Kilcullen, former Chief Strategist in the State Department's Office of the Coordinator of Counterterrorism. He helped plan the successful "surge" in Iraq, and he's seen a lot of civil wars in his time. He didn't consider a new U.S. civil war likely ... but he was also pretty damn far from ruling it out: "I think what we're seeing now is, what I would describe as a proto-insurgency situation ... the ingredients are out there, if somebody knew what they were doing, [they could] pull together an effective movement."

Secession WILL happen because if a state’s citizens votes for secession then the whole ENTIRE state secedes. That’s how it works.
Free Republic made the list...
I read most of the article and came across this paragraph:
“Bill Fulton, an expert on the American militia movement and informant for the FBI, has far more than 170 groups on his list of “armed, violent organizations that might take a shot at the Federal Government”. That’s out of an estimated 1,360 “radical militias and anti-government groups” in the United States in 2012 (note that there were just 149 four years before)”
That estimated list of 1,360 “radical militias and anti-government groups” was compiled by the SPLC. They list Free Republic as one of those groups! If you visit the link below and scroll through to California you’ll find it. Lol
Da da dada da da da dah! I think there is a less than 1% chance of civil unrest given a fair election. If either party cheats at the numbers, there will be excited people. I think there is a far greater chance of civil unrest if Obummer begins settling Muslims in greater numbers than neighborhoods, especially rural neighborhoods, can tolerate. I want at least 50% of them settled into gated communities. If that happens, then the top is off the kettle.
You, Sir, are a war monger and like to get the troops roiled a bit, I’m guessing. We deplorables are rather well mannered coming from well mannered and civilly obedient people. Mostly.
The yutz doesn't mention the Spanish Civil War. He plays carefully off-stage definitional games to avoid awkwardness.
[ And we did just see an anti-government militia get off scot-free for occupying a federal building ]
What a moron. THIS is what he picks for an example after what we’ve seen the last couple of years? He should be a “reporter” for one of the local liberal “news” stations here. What an idiot.
The author almost accidentally stumbles over some of the points you’ve made.

I think the MSM has volunteered to be “first”.
Should Trump win, there’s a theory Obama will resign, and President Biden will pardon Obama.
The United States won't follow that model for a couple of reasons: first, the lack of sharply defined tribal regions, and second, that the martial tension is likely to be a federal government that is expanding, not fading. Applicable models tend to follow that of an occupation government of some sort following an invasion, and those follow a very different pattern of resistance, especially considering the wide distribution of available materiel in the U.S. and combat skills within especially the rural population.
It will be unique, in short, and extremely nasty considering the ability of a distant central government to surveil and engage via drone warfare and the difficulty that confers in local resources being able to employ enough force projection to counterattack. Urban guerrilla warfare and raids on secure enclaves are likely to be the only replies available to an insurgency (if it can even be called that) with limited technical resources. All of that together spells out an extended period of unpleasantness during which the cycle of violence will have revolved enough times to prevent any amicable solution short of complete breakdown of one side or another, or both sides breaking down from sheer exhaustion.
Just my own $0.02, and probably worth not much more than that, but there it is.
Zombieland Rule #1: Cardio.
Unfortunately, there is a limit to how long such payments can go on. Even printing money can't create wealth to distribute to these people. We only have to look to Venezuela to see that.
The crash that comes will entail five to fifteen years of adjustment to lower expectations on the part of just about everybody. It will be very unpleasant and will probably result in the deaths of millions.
The greatest uncertainty is "when will this happen". The government, I believe, has indulged in lying about our economic statistics. This will permit us to go too long without correcting our behavior and cause much more disturbance when the day arrives that we MUST change our behavior.
Today we have artificially low interest rates. This distorts the real value of economic activity. The result will be stubborn lack of economic growth and a continuing decline in standard of living. The relative tax burden on those who produce will grow with time until the productive become criminals.
I just heard George Will stating that Trump represents an angry electorate and that that is not who we are. I think he underestimates the anger by a dangerous amount.
Right now I feel oppressed by Governor Moonbeams various gun control laws. He has outlawed normal capacity magazines, pistol grips on semi-automatic rifles, and the right to purchase ammunition without a criminal background check.
If Hillary wins the election, I see no possibility whatever that these infringements will be eliminated in my lifetime.
That means I either have to move to a free state, become an outlaw, or submit to the infringements. I have listed these in my order of preference.
The problem is that order of preference doesn't represent the costs of adopting any of the options. Submitting is the least expensive but is so offensive that I don't think I can choose that. Becoming an outlaw or moving to a free state both have very serious costs and consequences.
When the number of people dealing with this dilemma increases into the millions, the U.S. will be nearing its end. People will move, the political divide will become a geographic divide, and the country will fracture similarly to what happened to India. This will not be pretty.
I read Mad, too, ConservaTeen did read it once at Barnes and Noble, but asked me why I thought it was good. I told him it wasn’t as liberal back then...now, since it is owned by Warner it sucks...
This will not protect her. Impeachable offenses are not pardonable. Review US constitution, article 2, section 2.
Impeach her. Then she cannot pardon herself. The subsequent Trump presidency can see to her trial and conviction.
But it’s not going to go there. Trump will be elected. She will be pardoned by Obama before he leaves office. She’ll need to be convicted on a charge not covered in Obama’s pardon. How thorough can he be?

You describe the current situation very well, and hit the nail on the head with your prognosis of “a continuing decline in standard of living”. I believe this is completely by design. These people, the global bankers, are not stupid. Foolish, definitely, but they’re fully aware of the outcome their market manipulations will produce. It is completely by their design that the wealthier nations of the world will have a declining standard of living, particularly the United States, in order to bring about level financial playing field across the globe, themselves and their cronies (the propaganda artists and the ‘law’ makers) excepted of course.
They’ve been very successful in hiding the true nature of what their doing, which is nothing less than creating a nationless era of global rule, control, and power, themselves at the top, by convincing an increasingly dumbed-down, unintelligent, pleasure seeking, and ever growing portion of our population that what they’re doing ‘fair’, ‘benevolent’, and ‘just’, by robbing the producers through taxes and currency devaluation, and then doling out a pittance to those willing to be good little serfs. Further, they’re doing an excellent job at fomenting anger and hatred not only in those who are genuinely lacking basic needs, but also those who work hard and watch their labors dissolve before their very eyes.
This increasing national dissatisfaction and anger is also clearly by design, pitting one demographic against another on multiple levels. I suspect the global banking cartel fully desires some form of genuine war in our country in order to bring about a population reduction in which the remaining public will consist of those who are all too willing to go along with a global rule, content to never raise their standard of living beyond a set point, but willing to be good little worker serfs, rewarded with various forms of entertainment and self pleasure in exchange for playing their small role in a ‘glorious’ New World Order. Ugh....
“We” would lose a civil war. Any revolution here must be peaceful and from the bottom up.
