Looking for an 'Unprecedented' October Surprise? Nothing Tops Lawrence Walsh's 1992 Dirty Trick

FBI Director James Comey's letter to Congress indicating that the bureau has "learned of the existence of (Hillary Clinton) emails" which he concluded must be reviewed "to determine whether they contain classified information" has led to all kinds of people declaring the move an "unprecedented" October surprise.

Even some people who should know better have called it the "Mother of All October Surprises." Perhaps it ultimately will be, but as things currently stand, it's not really in the running for current champion.

The press's institutional memory is so weak, and its insistence on burying long-ago inconvenient truths is so strong, that no one I'm aware of has made a comparison to Special Prosecutor Lawrence Walsh's indictment of former Reagan Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger on October 30, 1992, and Walsh's obviously calculated decision to include a reference to incumbent President George H.W. Bush in his filing. MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, who one would expect to remember its brutality and dishonesty, failed to do so in a telephone interview Friday afternoon.

Which may be hard for the proponents of a Bush-Clinton cabal to explain away.

From Weinberger (great American) to Weiner (worthless puke). Much more going on than politics this time though. I get the feeling it will be an interesting monday.

Ross Perot, a runt, low life fellow Texan managed to siphon off votes from G. Bush I to the extent Clinton won. Had Ross Perot not been a factor in that election the Clinton’s would be a distant memory ... left, and mostly forgotten, in the junk heap of political wannabees.

The worst thing is that it was totally manufactured. Weinberger was innocent as a lamb.

I remember it well.

One of the least successful “independent” prosecutors ever.

How sweet it is... Huma could probably face an indictment on Monday, since she’s obviously lied under oath. Highly unlikely that Loretta Lynch would do so though... Comey obviously informed Lynch that if any of these emails proved to be new, and not saved copies of previous emails, he would recommend her indictment and he may recommend her indictment regardless since Huma vowed under oath that she had given the FBI access to all of her devices when she clearly didn’t. Huma wasn’t on the plane because she’s already consulting with and likely being grilled by defence attorney’s regarding her response to a possible indictment.

That’s why Lynch was quick to publically point out that she had recommended Comey to not send the letter to congress. She’s signalling Comey to not even bother trying to recommend such a indictment.

From the NY slimes, 7/1/16:

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch, ... said Friday that she would accept whatever recommendations career prosecutors and the F.B.I. director made about whether to bring charges...

Not true. He took equally from Clinton and Bush. The rest of his support largely never voted before or would have stayed home. Clinton would have won by a much greater margin without Perot. Bush lost that one all on his own.

Not only that but Perot was right on the money about NAFTA, we have all witnessed that great sucking sound of our jobs going to mexico.

Sure... But wouldn’t that be against the justice departments established ‘policy’ to not interfere in elections (unless you’re indicting a Republican)????

This woman will do nothing of the sort... In fact, she may fire Comey if he does recommend an indictment... That’s probably what her and Bill Clinton were discussing on that plane.

You are correct. I was a yound Perot voter.

I would have never EVER EVER voted for draft dodging d!@[< head Clinton. And I was pissed that Bush signed off on our Vietnam POWs all being accounted for as CIA chief.

I would have not voted if Perot was not running

Joe Arpaio was the recipient of an indictment the day before early voting began in AZ. The Dems are recycling their dirty tricks!

Had Bush not ended the Reagan Revolution, Perot would have amounted to nothing. His supporters were disillusioned Reagan Democrats

Agree. Perot’s involvement opened a door to Bill Clinton. Similarly, Mike Huckabee’s involvement opened a door to Obama. Huckabee has no shame and still appears on tv and even tried to run for president. If he was smart and loved America, then he would have never entered the race in 2008.

And after the dust settled, Weinberger asked, rhetorically, “Where do I go to get my reputation back?”
