Don't kid yourselves. Amarillo has adequate medical facilities. It's all about dumping the homeless onto someone else.

That said, uber lib Austin deserves whatever it gets.

Every town and city in America should send their homeless to Austin, and Berkeley, and Ithaca, and...

Mayor “Bleeding Heart” Adler said in an interview he was glad that Austin is a good place for the homeless to flock to. Someone should explain to him that these are not tourists who bring money to spend. The homeless are a money pit, soaking up tax money that could be used much more productively.

I’d venture to say that healthcare is one of the major industries in Amarillo. To say Austin has better medical facilities is ridiculous.

Is First Amarillo Church another name for First Baptist?

If so, I’m surprised they’re doing this.

Amarillo can get really cold in the winter. Generous of them to send their homeless south.

I was in Austin all last week for a class. There were homeless beggars on every street corner, intersection, and overpass.

In the 1970’s when a mental patient was released in NYC they were offered a one way ticket to California.

“That said, uber lib Austin deserves whatever it gets.”

Easy to say when you don’t live here. Some of us are hanging around this town trying our best to vote out the liberal cult members who are drunk on their own power. The thing that has made that such a losing proposition is the massive influx of Californians who are trying to turn Austin into what they left.

Comedy Central just reran a South Park epi on the practice.

IIRC, one of the SP guys has a home in Venice, CA, and wanted to put up a higher privacy fence to block out the bums hassling him and his in his yard. Some aging hippie selectman with a ponytail (named Matt something - the selectman, not the ponytail) blocked the "renovation".

Near the end of the epi, in the rewritten song, the lyrics go something like "...are nice to the homeless/you can hang at Matt's house..."

You are correct. Idiots in the cities that pushed for comprehensive and extensive homeless services are being overrun with the homeless from other cities. They are handed a one-way bus ticket and then become the problem of other cities. Just ask anyone in Dallas once the brain-dead DemocRATS pushed through the homeless center.

And the churches in Austin should give them one-way bus tickets to Washington! I see a trend here.

In New York City there used to be a one year residency requirement for welfare. (New York at the time had relatively generous benefits and very few recipients compared to today.) You know where this is going. A judge ruled that the residency requirement was un-const-TIT-tooo-shun-al, and they started arriving by the busload from Alabama and Mississippi. A Federal judge later ruled that they couldn’t deny benefits to folks just cause they were in the country illegally.

The taxpayers were never consulted.

Most of these people are homeless because they chose a lifestyle that got them there. Drugs, alcohol, crime, and laziness will do that.

To make matters worse, Austin is a sanctuary city that attracts ILLEGALS and drug dealers by the thousands. They asked for it, and now they got it.

In Austin, they’re referred to as drag worms and it’s about the friendliest city in Texas for derelicts.

They should be given a ticket to where their family is. Let families help their own & stop making the rest of us support them.

If the family has written them off as a deadbeat, put them in county jail overnight for vagrancy & then have a deputy escort them to the county border.

Very few of these are homeless, & those are the ones the church should help get back on their feet.
