We called First Amarillo Church, the pastor confirmed they purchased an $85 one-way bus ticket for Quinonez back in August. Just one of two tickets to Austin purchased that month.
He told us buying one-way tickets for the homeless is a common practice for churches. Last fiscal year, First Amarillo bought 1,200 one-way bus tickets.
The money mostly spent to send homeless people to bigger cities that provide more resources for the homeless, like Austin.
I know Austin is pretty open and friendly and accepting"

Lol. I’m actually half Cherokee, and all my life people asked me why I didn’t get all the freebies offered to native Americans. I just told them that I had the same opportunities everyone else does, and that all the bad stuff that happened to my ancestors didn’t happen to me, so why should the white people living now have to pay for something that they didn’t do and never happened to me? I never got a good answer.
My section chief in the Army was a full-blooded Cherokee, and 100% red-neck American. Loved the guy. He used to tell me “Billy-Joe Lonesome, ain’t no way you’re a Yankee. You can’t be from New York City.” I took it as a compliment. I always felt that I was an American born in the wrong city.
Thanks for sharing that.
I’m east of Amarillo..... never go there to shop anymore if I can help it. Obama is importing trash so fast here its silly......Concealed carry permits at an all time high in the Texas Panhandle . Not a ‘’ if “” question but “”when”” .... sad. Numbers per capita is the highest in Texas. But we can deport homeless Americans to Austin as this administration gives aid and comfort, housing, jobs, vehicles, SSI income and free medical care to anti-American assholes from arab states that no doubt promise to vote democrat.......
Grrrr.....
And the toll on the schools? What can you do?
n Austin, I went into a shop to bur a Colashg, a chech pastry.
The baker was mexican, the clerk was korean and there was a Thai shrine belonging to th shop owner in the corner
If one replaces social programs with church programs then they are really just shifting the hand outs. Today’s social gospel was introduced in the early 20th century and is an aberration of scripture. The church charity never was meant to support lazy or indifferent people but only those truly in need and then only to give them a helping hand-not a color TV.
Tis a mess ...... 42 different languages spoken in the Amarillo ISD .
the liberal hell hole known as Portland oregone does this....
They are eventually going to collapse the city if there is no opposition. They have become so bold now that they are going places that even moderate liberals fear to tread. We finally got one voice, Don Zimmerman, on the sorry excuse for a city council. If you want to be “proud” of someone, be genuinely proud of him. He’s got nerves of steel to go up against those mind numbed fools he sits on the bench with.
Property taxes and property values both have sky rocketed because the fools left the west coast where houses are unaffordable and came here where their eyes bugged out at how far their cash would go. When the wiley Texans figured out what was happening, they quickly raised their asking prices and got full price offers and then some. Just last week I heard a radio ad that told people that they might not know how much their house is worth and they might be leaving money on the table with too low of an asking price.
A lot of the Texans have moved out of town and bought ranches. Others that I know of are renting and putting commercial developments on property. They are milking it for all it’s worth while it lasts.
Twice in recent memory, Austin has gone completely bust economically. I don’t know if it could happen again because the engine driving this boom is different now, but the late 80’s were a time of intense pain in this city. Those of us who lived through it know how bad it can get.
Meanwhile, what kind of education is the average kid getting?
They have taken such advantage of our laid back, generous nature in this state. I remember one comment in the 90’s made by a manager at Dell. He’d just been hired from silicone valley and thought he was such a big shot in our little city. He said that Austin was backward because there weren’t even any Starbucks. The condescension was palpable when he said “we’re blazing trails here”. The more I meet them, the less I like the general attitude that radiates off of them in waves.
I have met a few that are conservative and are moving here for the right reasons and I want to shake their hands in gratitude. They are unfortunately outnumbered by the bad ones.
Burqa bell curve no doubt.....
Yeppers. Little cabins here that weren’t worth much of anything were suddenly getting half a million for the imported Californians. We’re living in my family’s home of four generations. This was supposed to be our forever last home. We’ve been holding onto it by grace alone the past few years and that simply can not last.
Yes, those little bungalows in Hyde Park and Tarrytown with one bathroom were selling for more than a king sized house in Cedar Park even 10 years ago. I cannot understand why people are willing to pay so much and get so little just so they can put a particular zip code in their return address and live under the dominion of the Austin Council of Communists.
