GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- The Mesa County Elections Office said they received reports a canvasser for the Democratic party was offering to pick up ballots and turn them in for voters.
The elections office said that while this is legal, it is a really bad idea voters should never give their ballot to a stranger. Elections officials recommended that voters turn their ballots in themselves or have a trusted loved one do it.
Local Democratic officials confirmed they do help voters turn ballots in. Local Republicans, however, said they drive people to the ballot drop-off locations, but never physically take someones ballot.
Tune in tonight to KJCT News 8 as reporter Makenzie OKeefe will have the full story.
And .. if the person happens to be a Republican .. there have been cases where the ballots were collected and dumped in some alley dumpster .. and the votes were never counted. They were not discovered until after the election.
DO NOT GIVE YOUR BALLOT TO ANYONE .. IF YOU CAN’T DRIVE, HAVE A FRIEND DRIVE YOU TO THE POLLING PLACE.
i believe you can turn in more than 10 in Colorado BUT you have to fill our a form at the voter center identifying you. i will check on that on Wednesday at work as an election judge.
