A ceremony was held Saturday to dedicate a new gravestone for a 7-year-old Michigan boy whose brutal killing more than 80 years ago remains unsolved.
Richard Streicher Jr. was murdered in March 1935 in Ypsilanti and his grave in a town cemetery was never marked due to the notoriety of the crime, the Ann Arbor News reports. The boy never returned home after going sledding on a late winter evening. His body was found days later underneath a footbridge near his home with 14 stab wounds.
Investigators never found the killer.
The Ann Arbor News ran a story about the cold case murder in December which led to an online fundraising campaign that raised $1,500 for a headstone to mark the grave.
Engraved on the monument is a runner sled in remembrance of the boys last activity before his death, the paper reported.

I think that there may have been a serial killer of children around during this period. My older neighbor in Wisconsin escaped nearly getting murdered as a child. Several children in my area disappeared or were murdered within several years of this murder. Wis isn’t that far from Michigan.
I suspect he saw something that someone believed the child should not have seen.
His murderer is known, just not to anyone on earth
So, sad, but so nice to get a stone.
I could not get anything due to apparently faulty link.

Why they couldn’t put put up a gravestone long ago is beyond me.

Ed Gein on the prowl?
Since this child was murdered 81 years ago, it is most likely that his murderer is already dead and facing his just desserts.
Don't those two states actually border each other?
Regards,
A bit of northern Wisconsin borders the upper peninsula of Michigan. Otherwise, big ol’ Lake Michigan separates the two states. There are child murderers all over the place. I don’t know anything about this case, but horribly, it could have been another child.
Sure, but if you want to drive from Ann Arbor to the Michigan border with Wisconsin, the trip is close to 600 miles.
The fact that certain locations in state X might be hundreds of miles away from certain locations in state Y is irrelevant.
Regards,
I know what you meant - point taken.
Serial killers may be drifters or people that live somewhere but go out from the point that they live possibly several 100 miles to avoid detection.
Notice how they suspected the murderer might be a HOMOSEXUAL.
Love the old days when things were stated flat out, too. Although surprised to see “sex” itself written in local news, not surprised they are unafraid to call people “perverts” and “delinquents”.
