It's Not an Election. It's a War.
American Thinker ^ | October 15, 2016 | Debbie Hallberg

There are an awful lot of people out there who still think this is a conventional election, that we are choosing between two candidates on the basis of experience, policies, and character.

This is not a conventional election. This is, as the late, great Andrew Breitbart put it, "war!"

An all-out culture war.

It's not a war that conservatives started or have ever wanted. It is a war that has been thrust on us. But if we don't treat it as a war, if we don't take it seriously as a war, we will lose and lose miserably. We will lose not just for the next four years, but for the next 40 years, and possibly the next 400 years.

In other words, this is not a skirmish or a tiny battle, as the #NeverTrump crowd imagines. If we don't defeat the enemy in November, there may not be another chance for a long time to come.

When you're at war, your tactics change considerably. For your leader, you don't want a gentleman warrior or an intellectual who is good at articulating ideas but not very good in the trenches. Those are peacetime leaders, perhaps, but not wartime generals.

At time of war, you pick a general who is tough as nails and will lead you confidently into battle and be victorious. You choose someone who knows how important it is, as Winston Churchill said, to "Never give up! Never give up! Never, never, never-never-never-never!"

The general you pick may be foul-mouthed, crude, or brusque. He may have any number of personal failings. Those things don't matter in war. What matters is:

Is he on your side?

We are in the early stags of the coming Social War; i.e. witness the open war of the police.

You know, his daughter in law was a DEMOCRAT member of the Virginia House of Delegates, then the Virginia state Senate for 20+ years, retiring only last year. She was your basic Democrat, friend of Tim Kaine, Mark Warner, et al. Not sure how that happened.

My wife is terrified of the Donald but won’t go for granny pickles at least.

I can’t fathom why but she thinks he is a power mad control freak on an ego trip.

All elections are wars. It’s how democratic republics settle the matter of who our leaders will be without bloodshed.

Not sure how that happened.

Rather amazing that someone could have an influence like the General in one's life yet still turn out FUBAR.

Then again, since he passed in '71, she mightn't have been on the scene back then; but still the legacy that she'd have to have ignored .. mind boggling, actually   :-\

And the war is over whether a small majority of misinformed, misled fools that happen to live in the same country as the rest of us can vote for all of us to be enslaved by corrupt, power mad people who aren’t capable of running a gas station.

I feel for you.

I haven’t heard from my Yankee cousins since my usual mid-summer visit.

Not that we had any real falling-out, but let’s just say I took careful note of their insistence that Trump was just like Hitler.

A lot of friendships are going to end over this election, a lot of families won’t be speaking to each other.

But I’m not going to betray my country just to be popular.

She was married to Jr before he went to VN and got badly blown up. After VN he became an alcoholic, battling the affliction till his suicide. The son, himself, ran for Congress as a Dem, losing badly. He and his wife were separated, no doubt due to the alcoholism. After his death she entered politics and used her married name to great advantage.

I know it’s tougher in Israel than many Americans can imagine. But if America goes, so does Israel.

Many studies have shown that 1 in 3 women have had an abortion.

Didn't know that. More than I thought. Looked it up for the most recent stat:

"While the number of abortions decreased among most subgroups of women except women who were poor, cohabiting, ages 20 to 24 or non-Hispanic African Americans. That means 30 percent of women (effectively, one in three) will have an abortion by age 45, if the 2008 abortion rate prevailed. - Sep 30, 2015"

So they decrease their guilt by voting democrat? Lots of potential dynamics there. .

Considering Clinton's positions on the great Constitutional questions before us, perhaps a bit of Samuel Adams' wisdom might be appropriate:
"Is Life, Property and every Thing dear and sacred, to be now submitted to the Decisions of PENSION'D JUDGES, holding their places during the pleasure of such a Governor (President?), and a Council perhaps overawed! To what a State of Infamy, Wretchedness and Misery shall we be reduc'd if our Judges shall be prevail'd upon to be thus degraded to Hirelings, and the Body of the People shall suffer their free Constitution to be overturn'd and ruin'd. Merciful GOD! Inspire Thy People with Wisdom and Fortitude, and direct them to gracious Ends. In this extreme Distress, when the Plan of Slavery seems nearly compleated, 0 save our Country from impending Ruin - Let not the iron Hand of Tyranny ravish our Laws and seize the Badge of Freedom, nor avow'd Corruption and the murderous Rage of lawless Power be ever seen on the sacred Seat of Justice!

"Is it not High Time for the People of this Country explicitly to declare, whether they will be Freemen or Slaves? It is an important Question which ought to be decided. It concerns us more than any Thing in this Life. The Salvation of our Souls is interested in the Event: For wherever Tyranny is establish'd, Immorality of every Kind comes in like a Torrent. It is in the Interest of Tyrants to reduce the People to Ignorance and Vice. For they cannot live in any Country where Virtue and Knowledge prevail. The Religion and public Liberty of a People are intimately connected; their Interests are interwoven, they cannot subsist separately; and therefore they rise and fall together. For this Reason, it is always observable, that those who are combin'd to destroy the People's Liberties, practice every Art to poison their Morals. How greatly then does it concern us, at all Events, to put a Stop to the Progress of Tyranny. It is advanced already by far too many Strides. We are at this moment upon a precipice. The next step may be fatal to us. Let us then act like wise Men; calmly took around us and consider what is best to be done. Let us converse together upon this most interesting Subject and open our minds freely to each other. Let it be the topic of conversation in every social Club. Let every Town assemble. Let Associations & Combinations be everywhere set up to consult and recover our just Rights." - Samuel Adams
