It’s like buying art: Why would someone pay thousands or millions of dollars for an original painting by Matisse/Dali/Pollock when you can pick up a paper copy at Wal-Mart for $2?

Originality and collectability are the factors, not practicality or utility.

Yes, I can be quite proletarian in my attitude.

I watched a show on the Velocity channel where someone had discovered an old Ferrari racing car.

It had caught on fire. It didn’t have an engine. It was missing gauges.

They were going to auction this burned car.

I thought they might get a few thousand dollars.

It sold for millions.

The reality of collecting cars is just as you say.

The market will determine the value of the vehicle.

While I might love muscle cars, I’m an extremely poor judge of their price.
