American school kids prefer teachers of color, a new study shows.
As the demographic make-up of US students has tipped toward a minority-majority, much has been made of the contrast seen in the nation's predominantly white body of teachers. For the first time, educators now have a glimpse of what that racial imbalance might mean to middle and high school students, thanks to new analysis conducted by researchers at New York University.
Using survey data compiled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the researchers canvassed the thoughts of more than 50,000 students about 1,680 teachers.
The survey data included students' rankings of their teachers based on "7Cs" – Challenge, Classroom Management, Care, Confer, Captivate, Clarify, and Consolidate. Importantly, the researchers note, students were asked to give feedback on specific teachers, not the overall teacher workforce at their school. This meant researchers could control for other reasons students may prefer certain teachers.
Among key findings, the research suggests that students feel they relate to teachers of color better than their white counterparts, and that, in turn, this may create an environment more conducive to learning.
"This study provides empirical evidence that at least from the student perspective, there is something really different going on," study author Hua-Yu Sebastian Cherng, an assistant professor of international education at NYU, told the New York Daily News.
Currently, the American teacher workforce is overwhelmingly white. In 34 states, the demographic gap between minority students and their white teachers is more than 20 percentage points, and some studies suggest this gap is growing. The gap is particularly pronounced in urban centers like New York. The Big Apple has an 85 percent racial/ethnic minority public school population, but only 40 percent of its teachers are non-white – a 45 percentage-point differential.

i would wish to have the BEST teachers teaching me regardless of race or ethnicity.
And by color, they mean black...and, maybe, some Hispanic. No Asians, Indians, Pacific Islanders, etc. need apply.

These little snowflakes and twinkies “of color” might want to watch what they wish for. During my time in the Army, I always had my fingers crossed when I showed up at a new unit that the First Sergeant was African American. Most of the time, it worked out. They never took any crap from “da boys”. I had a huge African American 1SG in Korea. Great guy. My room was next to his. I really enjoyed his “wall to wall” counseling sessions with the bad boys. LOL.
We are just desegregating. Seems clear to me. Oh Well. What can I tell you?
Sorry about that kids..the supreme court settled that many years ago when they forced you into being bussed to white schools. Look it up.
No, the solution is to move to a country where the teachers are your color. That would end racism in the schools and end racism in our country.

I was reading an article about Hawaii a few years back and the article referred to the fact that Hawaii is minority-majority but the article still referred to whites as if they were a majority. Whites are about 25% compared to Asians which are around 40%. But the stupid liberal writers still can’t wrap their simple minds around this.
Asians are not considered a minority.
Then move back to the island of your loser ancestors...
The solution seems to be segregation again. And what will happen, again, is that whites and Asians will out perform blacks, Hispanics and Muslims and then whites will be called racist for letting blacks segregate themselves. What next, black only colleges? Oh wait....
Oh, so you want non-achievers who got their job through affirmative action?
With an attitude like that, they'll go far in life.
Great idea, just add some under-performing affirmative action teachers to the mix and watch the scores of these kids go even lower.
