Democratic Congressman Peter Welch of Vermont is feeling the love from Republicans.
Welch won both the Democratic and Republican nominations in August for re-election this year to a sixth term, and faces a little known candidate in November from the small Liberty Union political party.
Winning both major party nominations is rare but not unheard of. Welch also was the pick of both parties in 2008 for Vermonts only seat in the U.S. House. This year, hes the only congressional candidate nominated by both the Democrats and the Republicans.
Known as an open-minded liberal, Welch is praised by GOP leaders in the House as a trustworthy colleague not given to grandstanding.

Colonel Sanders?
Misleading farticle. He won the Republican primary because no Republican ran, he was the only name on the ballot. He got 4.5% of the vote, 3% voted for write in candidates, over 90% of GOP voters simply left it blank.
Hillary calls Sanders supporters basket of losers... Hillary looks down on everyone EXCEPT fellow ‘elites’...(moneygrubbers)
Isn’t his name an ethnic slur?
Is the “Sanders wing” of the GOP as pro-amnesty as the Graham, McCain, Ryan, Ayotte wing?
Probably not as pro-war, though.
We have an economically illiterate geezer wing?
You mean these people? https://theintercept.com/2016/10/07/excerpts-of-hillary-clintons-paid-speeches-to-goldman-sachs-finally-leaked/
He doesn’t grandstand ? Well la-dee-frickin-da. He’s still a Communist.
There’s NO “SANDERS WING OF THE GOP”!
Vermont used to be a strong conservative place. Calvin Coolidge, Reagan’s favorite President, was from Plymouth Notch.
Sad to see it become perverted.
You are thinking of “Welsh”.
What in Heaven’s Name is wrong with Republicans in Vermont? There isn’t anyone willing to run for office there? And instead let another leftist pull a Bloomberg?
It sounds like the Republican Lt. Governor is a slight favorite in the gubernatorial race, and they have a strong candidate to hold his current job.
They got the guy who was almost elected Governor last time to take a run at Leahy.
But no one filed for the US House seat, no. And you know what? It occurred to me that it might the first time since the party’s founding that the GOP didn’t run someone for the House in Vermont.
It’s actually the 2nd, Welch didn’t have have a GOP foe in 2008 either, when he was just a freshman who had won by an unimpressive margin in 2006. Capital L lame for a state with a single district. Although technically speaking Welch is the Republican nominee and was in 2008 as well (same circumstances) so are running someone, barf. He’s one of only 3 GOP nominees (yet identified) for anything to fail to get my easy to get endorsement, if I was in Vermont I’d vote for the psycho bird lady, his only foe. I hope he’s the only rat scumbag to have the GOP ballot line this year, pesky fusion voting, it can be fun but.....
In Delaware the lone House seat is OPEN, not that anyone seemed to notice, the GOP has a sacrificial lamb running, nothing more.
