Actually, it has always been a political statement. Just one that provoked pride and honor, and not meaningless gestures by pampered high y’aller sub room temperature IQ millionaire athletes.

Very cool. But it got me thinking: I wish they would do away with the “lead singer” business and go back to having the crowd sing the National Anthem.

I remember as a kid at Shea Stadium, hearing the announcer say, “Ladies and gentlemen, please rise and join in the singing of our National Anthem.” And then we all did, accompanied by the big Thomas organ that used to provide ALL the music for the game.

I was at the Ryder Cup opening ceremonies on Thursday. At the end, the National Anthem was sung. A professional singer started and then was joined by ever increasing numbers of the 20,000 or so people standing in the grass. The volume kept going up and up. No one "took a knee." It was amazing, heartwarming and patriotic. Many people were wearing red, white and blue. Even though my cell phone battery was almost depleted, I recorded a short bit of it. I will try to find out how to post it.

Before he died on Sunday, Arnold Palmer said that he hoped that the National Anthem would be played more often at the Ryder Cup. Maybe his wishes are being honored.

I just learned that he enlisted in the Coast Guard. Yoeman Palmer served from 1950 to 1953.

I believe Trump - he has started a MOVEMENT - back to being proud of your country and her military - and especially HER FLAG.

Now, we need to get that movement into our schools so we can save all the children who have been cheated regarding who their country is and what we stand for.

And .. the colleges are the worst of all .. it’s such a horrible thing they have done to lie and lie and lie to our children about who we really are.

The teachers’ unions are to blame for this .. and THEY ALL SUPPORT HILLARY CLINTON. Hillary’s only children’s issues consist of teaching our children a basketful of lies about our country.

Yeah, that made me laugh. Right out of 1984. As if it’s a crime.

Match Play is played hole by hole. To win a hole you must score lower than your opponent. When you win a hole, you are “one up” then 2 up, 3 up etc. When you are ahead more than the number of holes left the match is won...say “3 and 2” meaning 3 ahead with two holes to play.
