The assignment last April was for students to come up with an election topic that would provoke discussion in the class, said Frank Harvey.
Harvey, then a junior at Manville High School, decided to pick the topic of anti-gun control, he said. He put together an impressive video presentation that earned him an "A" on the project, he said.
But Tuesday, Harvey, a senior, was suspended from Manville High School and ordered to undergo a psychological exam for that same project. His teacher, Rachel Gottfried, has denied giving her College and Career Readiness class the assignment and approving his topic, he said.

Re-Education camps in the near future.
We already have re-education camps, they’re called public schools and colleges.
“Vervan she is contemplating hiring a lawyer and filing a lawsuit against the school district.”
Hell yes!
I am assuming a judge in a hearing required a psych exam. How in the holy hells would a school system have any power to require, demand or even suggest a students re-education and indoctrination back into the apparatchik skool systems by requiring an unwarranted psychological examination. This is one to either pull the student from the school commisars clutches or take to court. This is orwell on steroids.
The public schools are trying to ruin the futures of students who display any independence or conservative inclinations. They will make sure that they won’t get admitted to good schools.
The school and school officials need to be sued into oblivion. If the mother needs money to pursue them, set up a legal defense fund, I bet a lot of people would contribute.
It sounds like there is probably quite a bit more to this story than what is being reported here.
NO! It’s happening now. Don’t expect the re-education camps to look like re-education camps. This is what they look like.
School Superintendent is a real douche. Claims he can’t comment on the case because of state and federal courts. Then he proceeds to trash the mother and the kid.
Sue the School Superintendent personally for libel. Then call every kid in that class as a defense witness. One question for each student: What did teacher assign?
How did he get an “A” if the teacher denies giving the assignment?
Yeah...like someone already posted, a lot of us are probably headed for re-education camps.
The gun-control people use ‘misuse’ to define their basis for action.
There is a legal maxim “Ab abusu as usum non valet consequential” : “A conclusion about the use of a thing from its abuse is invalid.”
Of course the answer from the other side is shouting, name calling, or victim identification, or a call to the police or school administration ... all in the name of silencing opposing views...
Parents need to realize they own the school. They should also take the responsibility to check out the school before moving into the district. The guy’s parent is “contemplating” hiring a lawyer on something that happened 5 months ago. No, that’s too little, too late. She should have acted immediately by calling a lawyer while facing the principal and letting the lawyer give the school an attitude adjustment.
Our kid did a presentation on the death penalty and brought actual prison contraband and weapons to school. We asked the principal ahead of time and he ok’ed them with no problem. But then this is Texas.
Despite that, I had run ins with the school about twice a year. A well placed phone call here and there around the community and it doesn’t take but a few minutes to have them see the light.
LOL! Yeah, and congress gets it’s paycheck from our tax dollars but they, for the most part, only care about that and not so much for their constituents.
“His teacher, Rachel Gottfried, has denied giving her College and Career Readiness class the assignment and approving his topic...”
Then how could he get an “A” on the assignment?
Schools are slave training.
Don't be silly AP students always get an "A" else they won't get those choice college classes.
