I remember a decisive post by Dale Reed during the BP oil spill.
He pointed out that enormous oil seeps had been a feature of the area for centuries - so much so that ship captains used to caulk their hulls with the pitch that found its way to shore.
You will be missed Dale.
Dale was full of fascinating, interesting information. On the subject of smog in Los Angeles, he told me, and I have no reason not to believe this, that in the days before the white man took over California, the Indians in the Los Angeles area called it "The Valley of the Smokes" because when they all had their campfires lit the area became filled with smoke (smog), just like it does today.
