Many years ago I worked for the IRS, (yeah, I know). They had a data center in Detroit. All the black employees there took Martin Luther King’s birthday off years before it was a declared holiday. They just didn’t show up, and nothing was done to them. Kind of like now.

Reminds me of when I worked in Texas....We were instructed to mark Blacks not in attendance (But not absence) on Juneteenth (June 19th) if they did not come to work that day. Their absence on that day was not used to calculate % of absentism, etc.
