ON THE OCCASION OF THE FIRST DEBATE BETWEEN
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
Donald John Trump
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY, HEMPSTEAD, NY
9 PM MONDAY SEPTEMBER 26, 2016
The 90 minute debate will be divided into six time segments of approximately 15 minutes each on major topics to be selected by the moderator and announced at least one week before the debate. The moderator will open each segment with a question, after which each candidate will have two minutes to respond. Candidates will then have an opportunity to respond to each other. The moderator will use the balance of the time in the segment for a deeper discussion of the topic.
Wasn't that something? I don't know how you can debate-prep for that. A sneaky liar is one thing. But someone who will lie about you to your face with cameras rolling, confident that "fact-checker" Holt will back her up .... I don't know how anyone prepares for that. Lesson learned now.
You're right about Hillary and ALL of the damned Clintons.
Wow! That Time poll in less than 10 minutes has added 70k votes and has gone 51 - 49 Cankles to 55 - 45 Trump. Kelleyanne you magnificent bastard!
He did half heartedly mention that she really thinks global warming is the biggest threat to mankind, not nuclear proliferation. He could have mopped the floor with her on that one.
He had many opportunities to hammer her, but was distracted by the help she was getting from Holt.
All that being said, he did drive home one point very well. She’s been in DC for almost 30 years and has not done shit.
Yes he is...I did not comment at all during the debate but I read many comments. Yeah, we have a few trolls here tonight but for much of the commentary I’d just have to say that people need to have more intestinal fortitude and exercise more reason.
Trump did very well tonight. Did he knock her out, did she collapse in a seizure? Of course not, that was never going to happen. People need to get real. We are placing so much focus on this that we aren’t seeing clearly what these “debates” are like in real terms. Hillary gained no voters and Trump held his momentum. He was aggressive yet within control. Did he let opportunities pass - every candidate does in these - but he stood toe to toe with the inevitable one and delivered every bit as good as he took. And everyone saw, even the commentators on TV that Holt was afraid of what happened to fair Matt Lauer. That is lost on no one.
And tomorrow, all the talk is going to be about Trump. He will continue to outwork her.
concern roll rose, we’ve seen your BS before.
No I do agree, why not refuse to debate at all if it can not be fair. Hillary was the better debater but Trump won the debate. WHY? only two things will be remembered in a week...
Hillary 30 failed years a politician with a smooth lying tongue.
Trump a businessman with common sense, gets results, says it like it is.
no worries, just hang here for the next debates, and punch trolls instead ;)
Trump could have been better prepared. He would have been less susceptible to being goaded.
For the next two debates, Trump must think of this as a trilateral negotiation for the Presidency: Trump with the voters vs. Hillary with the voters.
As a negotiation, would Trump spend more time preparing if it were for a desired real estate property for his business and he was negotiating with a foreign government for land use?
Trump needs to bring that kind of discipline to the next debate, and to do that he really needs to prepare in a more traditional manner than to expect to just walk in and "wing it."
It will also go a long way towards subliminally proving that he is the master of the art of negotiation, instead of a slugger flailing for an early knockout.

Right. Instead of defending his comments made about women why didn't Trump say "well at least I didn't rape any women and politically destroy the rape victims". In case about case Trump chose to squander time defending himself against relatively petty attacks instead of attacking Hillary on her SERIOUS crimes. I said months ago this would be a problem for him in a debate format.
I am convinced this was deliberately planned by the Clinton camp as a strategy and it worked well for them. Trump fell for the bait. Hillary should have been destroyed tonight. Well maybe that will happen in the next two debates.
Her episodes are “here and there.” What you saw was real enough. She looked tired tonight, not an alert listener.
Yes. Were you even old enough to see it and remember it?
Yes.
You have less than NO idea how the LIVs and undecideds saw this; you're just guessing.
No, I'm not guessing, I'm going by the undecideds that I've seen commenting on TV, as well as one LIV in my own household who watched and noted that Hillary was smooth, slick— and phony. He also said that Trump seemed authentic a like a real person. He now says he's leaning Trump.
Name-calling? Oh, you mean "hand-wringer"? You were (and are) being a hand-wringer, IMHO...
Vote Trump!
What you forget is that most people have not watched his rallies— this is an audience of 100 million... He destroyed her, it is funny how the insiders see this, and I include us here and myself... I know all Trump’s lines— but most don’t..
So funny, I had to repeat it! :-D
Jeez louise, over 4000 posts.
“Trump needs to find a way to get his message out these debates wont permit it, with these moderators ........”
As I proposed a few days ago, anticipating the scenario we just witnessed, when a “fake but accurate” journalist tries a `gotcha’ birther/stamina/tax/”But you said” `question on Trump’ in order to further `the greater good’ and Clinton ... Trump should just ignore it and use his time to speak on a topic that Americans want to hear about. If the moderator asks him about it, just say, “My time is up.”
Yeah, it’s unusual. But so is Donald Trump. And as usual he’s fighting everybody BUT working, middle class Americans he is fighting for.
He did fine under the circumstances, but I don’t know why anyone thought that—at long last—there might be a level debate playing field: that Lucy might finally hold the football still.
And I was shocked by the negative, unhelpful comments directed at Trump from posters claiming to be FR conservatives. Jim Rob is a lot more patient than I would be if I ran the zoo.
If disappointed supporters of unsuccessful GOP-e candidates—and you know who you are—really believe that they can `try again’ in 2020, if only Trump loses: that’s reprehensible.
In any event by 2020 we will be fighting for our lives and liberty with an evil person like Hillary Clinton in the WH and the moribund Grand Old Party will expire, if its members abandon its candidate.
