Five members of the Southern Methodist University band took a knee while playing the national anthem prior to their game against Texas Christian University.
There were also a select number of students in the student section who joined in the protests.
“I feel like coming from an African American background — I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, which is a predominantly black city — that I get tired of seeing my black brothers and sisters dying from injustices and unjustified reasons,” one student, Coda Boyce, told the Dallas Morning News.
“I’m not against all police officers, I’m not saying all cops are bad, I’m not saying all Caucasian people are bad, because they’re not,” Boyce said. “I just believe that the injustice being shown in the past couple of years has been too much to handle. And I’m a little tired of it.”
Boyce also who wore a shirt that read “#BlackatSMU” and said she would kneel throughout the season if necessary.
The protests come on a day that Dallas first responders were being honored at the game.
Dallas police chief David Brown was midfield and performed the coin-flip prior to the game. Members of the band deny they chose this specific date to stage the protest.

Scum have so much opportunity in the USA but they’re so full of hate. Are they oblivious to the fact that they can be accepted into colleges at lower standards than their white counterparts? Whites are now the victims of racism and it’s perpetrated by our government.
Maybe blacks are held back by their own idiot leaders? They called academic achievement “acting white.” Overall, their race is a loser because they follow losers.
If these clowns want to be separated from the white man, I am good with that.
Those who protest should be marched off the field immediately following the anthem, dismissed from the band, and any scholarship revoked effective immediately.

I’d be good with it too, except that they’d still demand and expect that we subsidise them. They don’t want us, but they sure do want our money, expertise, inventions, and discoveries.
